Various Coding Softwares

Sorry if this has been covered before but I can't seem to find this covered.

What OS do the various coding softwares prefer and are there any that I can't use?

I was thinking of buying a second hand netbook for coding the car and intravee so it won't have windows 8 but I was wondering if there was any versions I should avoid (apart from the obvious crap ones)?

TIA

Paul.

Needs to be windows

I thought so, I have a MacBook Air as my current laptop and I'd heard that OSX wasn't an option.

I just wanted to make sure that the software was compatible with all types of windows. ie have they been updated when each new windows came out or am I better off getting one with and earlier version to ensure compatibility :)

I had a mare getting the software installer supplied by BCables.com to run on a dedicated laptop, tried Vista Business twice, XP Pro, but finally it all worked using Win 7 Ultimate 64bit, this was all using the same hardware & almost the same install process.

The software from BMCables is a nightmare. The install is huge and takes ages. I struggled to connect with it and removed it all.
If you only wish to code, you are better off registering at BMWcoders.com and following their links to download and install INPA, EDIABAS etc. NCSexpert is included too. I would also urge use of NcsDummy with NCSexpert which makes editing trace files a breeze. I installed the lot in less than 1/2 hour without any virtual machine software and it all worked first time. This was using Win 7 32bit Professional.

Please bear in mind that the Daten files within NCSexpert from both sources are dated 2006, so if your Z is newer than this you will need to update them to a later version, otherwise NCSexpert will not work.

Changes I made to press are:

Auto locking at 16 kph (might change this back if it bugs me).
Visual unlocking (2 indicator flashes).
Boot lid opening when locked.
Boot lid opens on double press.
Comfort closing of soft top. (Still be fitting my Gaptech module though).
Triple indicator flash.

Cheers, I'll just get on with Win 7 as that's the OS I wanted anyway.

greyboots - would it be easier to get these features using the intravee or NCS?
