Ok, so my car is now on about 58k miles, full BMW S/H etc..

Just wondering if I will see any benefit from replacing the vanos seals?

I do love to tinker...

Anyone?

Mike

On a more serious note is there any general observations, mileage wise, when these seals actually NEED to be replaced?

That's a bit vague as far as advice goes imo.
One of my first concerns when I bought my zed at 100k was if the vanos seals or chain guides and even the vanos in its' entirety needed replacing so i took it to a bmw specialist who advised me that if it wasn't rattling or producing any loss of power under accelleration then don't bother messing around with it.
Hence I would suggest mike that if you think you have any form of power-dropoff to get it dyno'd before going to the expense and trouble of faffing about with the vanos unecessarily.
You could always take the cam cover off and check for play in the chain guides. checking for rattle would be more difficult physically/mechanically but it's easy to hear ofc if there is a rattle.
