I think it had the noise with both cold and warm engine.
 
I ordered from Beisan, X8R site was unreachable at the time I was shopping.
 
I still wonder about the high pitched sound that disappeared... Afaik the vanos is more or less filled with oil and thus the bearings are probably swimming in oil as well. How can a high pitched noise be generated in such circumstances? Anyone else with similar experience?
 
After four days and about 100 miles of embedding I’m happy to report that the low end torque is back as well as the the instant throttle response with the whiplash-like initial acceleration. No leaks or other complications. A very satisfying mod, in conclusion.
 
I'm going to push every instinct I have to rush out and do it tonight-
