vanos problems

3.0 pre-face lift, 28k miles


had my car at the local indy today to find the cause of my engine rattle, it would seem to be the vanos. its going back next week for them to take the covers etc. off and have a proper look.

after a chat I get the feeling they would replace the unit in full. god knows how much that would cost

after doing some searches it would seem other options are avalible:

replace internal parts

I am quite handy with a spanner, but I have no idea how the vanos unit comes off, is it a complex procedure?
any help, advice or previous exerience of similar issues would be great

IN the UK we have a Mr. Vanos, probably better than trying Dr. Vanos

thats helpful having a mrvanos in England, it actually less than 100 miles from me, might even be worth taking it there?
