Vanos Filter Changed Today !!!!

Whilst my BB Bypass was being done today I took the opportunity to change my Vanos Filter and o Rings, really simple and quick job, apparantly this is not on the service schedule but should be done every 30K miles. if you look on youtube put in " ECS Tuning:DIY-Vanos Filter Change and it shows you how to do it!

anyway here are a few pictures :D

just need a 22mm socket and torque wrench,

product part codes are

B11.31.1.318.659 O-Ring

B11.36.1.403.325 O-Ring

B11.36.1.401.971 Filter

all for under £15 delivered!!

Sorry guys removed the first picture as it showed my home details on the invoice, all it showed were the 3 components before fitting :thumbsup:
 
What is the thought behind this, i remember reading about it years back, just keeping the vanos healthy?

The same reasoning behind any filter I'd have thought.

If there's nothing to 'collect' then why have a filter in the first place. So, if there is a filter, there must be something to 'collect' ∴ the filter must need to be changed to maintain its effectiveness - non?
 
The way i read it iirc is that The filter collects bits n pieces over time, can get clogged and therefore limit it's efficiency to lubricate the Vanos, for the sake of 10 mins and £15 it's got to be worth a go :thumbsup:
 
My dealer said this wasn't possible during my Insp 2 - I pointed them to a pic of the filter on RealOEM & they still wouldn't do it. Be interesting to get mine changed & see if there's any crap in it then at 61k I guess.

I got mine done at my dealer along whilst they were doing an oil service.

Total cost of about £170 including the oil service (supplying my own oil from ECP of course) - VANOS filter change was charged at 5 work units (25 minutes). Although I probably did eat & drink £50 worth of coffee/cakes/sandwiches while I was waiting :P
 
This is a very simple job for the home mechanic and worth taking 30 minutes to do for the sake of £15 in parts delivered (including time to brew a cuppa) :thumbsup:

If you put the part numbers in here you dont even need to go to your nearest dealer - they will be posted in a jiffy bag to your house :)

As Tony says why have a filter and not have it on maintenance schedule? Worth doing I guess at insp 2. Was there any debris in the filter??

No visible particles, but the gauze looked like it had brown 'mucus' on it, so worth replacing for piece of mind.

Thought I'd bump this topic up again, so hope that's ok?

met a great guy at Stratstone BMW today with a lovely ///MR and I mentioned this during our conversation, he didn't know about the Vanos filter so I suppose their will be others who don't too, could help someone :thumbsup:
 
I got mine changed during servicing and clearly BMW (that my indie got the part from) were surpised saying they'd never changed that part before. The filter was dark grey and mucky.
