VANOS check valves location

Hi all,

Any idea where the VANOS check valves are on my car? An E85 on a 55 plate, 2.0lt, 4 cylinder engine. Cheers
If you mean the solenoid valves then they are right on the front of the block near the top. Can't miss them. Often surrounded by an oily mess where the seals have leaked. Sorry don't have one to photograph for you.

No, I've located them, took them and cleaned them. I'm on about the little cylinder shaped non-return valves that can clog up. At the weekend i'm intending to remove the non-return valves as well as the solenoids again, change the oil and filter and see if that clears the engine light fault showing as the camshaft sensor B.
I've changed the sensor so it's not that, next step is to clean all the weak points on the VANOS unit.

Ah ok, not sure what you mean then tbh?
Unless they are something hidden behind those solenoids?
I thought that engine used the camshaft position sensor and the servo motor to adjust cam timing?

I've been looking on youtube for them and they appear to be hidden deep down on the drivers side of the engine. Looks like I may have to take the wheel and the inner covering from the wheel arch off to access them.

Before you dive in that deep, have you checked the eccentric shaft sensor to make sure the plug is not full of oil? A common fault.

Ooooh, that's a new one on me. I'll have another look for that. Any tips on where to start looking? I'm looking to get the car 100% so I can put it up for sale. Going to break my heart but I've just ordered an EV Mercedes through work.

It projects through the top cover near the front. You'll see the electric plug with an oil seal around it. Oil gets by and into the plug. Then it doesn't tell the servo motor to do its thing.
