Vanne's 2014 28i

Rear bushing kits revolve around uprate RTAB mounts, uprated RTABs, uprated knuckle bushes and uprated camber arms ..big improvement
How does this suspension setup work, like in the older z3/e86, the more you lower it, the more camber you get (in the rear i mean)?

So I came home this morning from my 6 day freight trip to a small mountain of boxes of crap that I’d ordered when I got the car. Only waiting on one more thing really, that’s the b12 setup and that’s coming in tomorrow I think. Well so desert cart says. So tomorrow I’ll starting ripping the front apart, complete new upper and lower control arms, tie rod ends, and a heap of new bushings for the rear.

Does anyone have a easy to read sheet of paper with the torque settings for the front and rear control arms?

What else came in? New idler pulley, new serp belt, new plugs, new coils, new alcantara cover for the steering wheel, that’s gonna be a bastard to stitch on properly, will no doubt require the removal of the steering wheel for that, but I’ll tackle all that once I’ve mot/reggo’ed the car. 2 new front grills came in too. And I’ve ordered a new 3 tonne low profile jack as one of my last ones has decided to go belly up. So yeah ordered a new one. Need 2 of those things to do anything worth while, along with some jack stands.

New wheel speed sensors, though I think I’ll keep them in check as the error seems to have gone. New wastegate actuator, I’ll also keep that one in check as I’ve fixed the old one..

It’s gonna be hot tomorrow.. not looking fwd to that.. but still, am looking fwd to getting a good first look under the car..

lol okay so new suspension set turned up this morning, happy with that, but as I still have a e86m Clubsport rear set in my cupboard, and a front set of e89 kw v3’s just came up for cheap (used) I am thinking I might go that route instead? Any opinions on that? I realize the rear will be valved differently to the front, but will it make a huge difference?

And then we did this…IMG_1743.jpegIMG_1744.jpeg
(These are the originals that were on the car (front left) in this case) OMG!!!! No wonder it failed the mot.

(Pretty glad these are labeled left and right for idiots like me)

(The are the KW v3 dampers, I’ll find out tomorrow as iam a bit wreaked now) failing that, I’ll use the eibach springs that came with the kw kit, but they are from the 35si, so prob a bit stiff for the 4 banger. The part number I can’t find online, but it looks like they are a custom race spring.. the part number is 6728013001 VA..

After dismembering both struts, it looks like we’re gonna Frankenstein this together, so I’ll be using the damper from KW, with the spring, seat and hat from the oem setup. That makes me loose the height adjustability, however the height will be about 2 mill lower than before, so that suits me perfectly…. Seeing as I can’t find the part numbers online for the kw eibach springs, I don’t wanna have a ride that’s way to harsh, I’ve got a race car for that.. cool, so that’s the plan then.. lol

And nope, we’re not.. there’s about a mill play in the bottom mount from the oem dampers, which, when the oem springs sits in it, goes offset, can’t have that. So in go the eibach springs.. bloody hell my hands are sore, I recon I did up and undid those spring compressors about 20 times…

Hmm or are we? I am going to cut the original top off the oem shock, if the sidewall is about 1.6mm it could work as a sleeve on the kw tube. Let’s have a look..lol lucky the missus isn’t home.. lol.. the kitchen is a right mess.

And N0! , the tube is 1.9mm wide, so that won’t fit. Shame really.. a well.. with the eibach we go.. I could easily enough take it to a machine shop and get them to reduce the inner by 1mm, , but that won’t leave much substantial material .for the cup to sit on. So no..no frankensteining today. Sigh.. it was fun though cutting into that shock..;)
I’ll keep the cup, I might revisit this idea later on after I’ve got MOT’ed.

Well, that all went back together waaay quicker than it came apart..

Sway link to go, but it’s nearly done.IMG_1758.jpegIMG_1759.jpegIMG_1760.jpeg

Right, now to plug the right side.

Bit late to the gig Vanne, but personally I found Eibachs way too stiff on my 35i and IS, which are the 6 cylinder cars and 100kg heavier than yours. 🫣

You might be ok with them though obvs…

Cheers guys, just taking a break atm, waiting for wd40 to sink into the bottom 3 nuts on the knuckle.

Bee , yep just the stock one I think.. for such a little car, this sway bar is huge..

John, yeah will see, this is more of a get through MOT exercise than anything else. Next time I visit the wreaking yards, I’ll need to find a right front inner liner. This one is shot.

Interesting development.. so the right strut, I could actually read the part numbers on that one..

31316796409. 31316796410

Which as far as I know has no business being on this car?

And we’re done. Also fixed up the front spoiler a bit while I was there. The only issue thing left to do is after it passes its road worthy, I’ll need to get an alignment done, and while it’s on their bridge, I’ll need to torque all those bolts up to spec. Haste have weight on wheels when you do it, and I can’t do that here at home.

Rear end? no idea, I haven’t touched it. The front end is. Ow on kw v3 with eibach custom race shocks from something or rather… yep nope… not even gonna go there, but I’ll do rego with this current setup.. just have to get the mot.. then got time to review wtf is going on here. I bet the back isn’t correct either..

Okay , taking a break from ripping s**t apart.. Or am I? IMG_20260707_123702.jpgIMG_20260707_124010.jpgIMG_20260707_124015.jpgIMG_20260707_124025.jpgIMG_20260707_124058.jpgIMG_20260707_124422.jpgIMG_20260707_124437.jpgIMG_20260707_124440.jpgIMG_20260707_124443.jpgIMG_20260707_124510.jpg

So this is the e89 CIC Linux 10 inch replacement screen. Which came in today to my house.. Yep Couldent help myself as mocking up the lcd on my dash pretty much drew my attention that this thing is huge.. And I like the flip up screen thing, though my screen is anything but nice...

So I ripped it apart to see how it works, no biggie. Lvds screen with separate touch screen panel. Ok
. Now what..???

As I wanna use the flip up unit, I'll buy a new 9 inch screen, remove the original and hopefully get this to work using the original flip up mech.Screenshot_20260707-144122.png
So I bought this.. Pretty cheap, but it's Lvds and has a separate ribbon for the touch screen panel. I'll ofcourse ditch the soc board it has in it , attaching the previous Linux board .
1600 × 600 rez ips screen. Yep the Linux screen is only 1280*480, and should be able to adjust the rez in the config menu.

Very interesting..that squares the circle nicely ..assuming the reflections are not bad..often they are useless with the roof down..
