Vanity Plates

Here’s ours. Bought R2 for Mrs. Merbrook’s birthday a while ago and thought it would be fun if we got R3 for the coupe.

Irish plate here too. I like the subtle individuality and the symmetry of 3 characters either side of the space.

My initials, Z4 and 74 (74 of no meaning at all - but if you really, really, squint it just about looks like a Z4!)

They do divide opinion don't they - "Wan*er plates" is a commonly used term for them - even within my family we have a mixture of private plate owners and people who think they're nothing more than a waste of money

I only like plates that are ageless / dateless. A few letters for your initials perhaps and between 1 and 3 numbers less letters / digits the better but of course they cost way more. Personally I don't understand those that try to make a plate look like something it isn't. it's like buying fake designer gear. As for those saying waste of money, the right plates are definitely not a waste of money. Before I moved here I had a plate with 3 letters and 3 numbers, bought it for around 500 GBP in around 2000 and sold it some 8 years later for 1200 GBP, I believe that plate is now on a Ferrari 550 Maranello! A waste of money? Not in my case.

Mine is personal to me "XEWKA" in Maltese is "Thorn", as in "Thorn in my side" ... the car was bought soon after a very acrimonious divorce!!!

Wife's plate again surname initial G, we have two sons and again grand daughters christian name initials

Joint initials on the E89 and my wife's maiden name initials on the XF. My wife has owned hers for nearly 40 years and I've owned mine for nearly 30 years. Definitely a Marmite thing but who cares.

Here is mine on my old e85 now on my e89. Bought this at auction for a lot less that the ones issued out. Means nothing to anyone but me

On the Z4 mine and the kids initials - numbers no significance

K14 NMD for my son - name KIAN MACD
MD 51 HAN for daughter - name Hannah MACD
S009 KAT for partner - name KAT rest no relevance
JN02 ERN for partners daughter- name ERIN birthday JUNE 02

All DVLA between £250 - £799 except the one on the Z4 which was dearer because dateless plate and bought from dealer

I’ve an age related on that I can’t use either.

Was on DVLA looking for a plate as a present for someone else and saw your post so stuck a combo close to your original plate in, the first one looks pretty close to your and not too expensive?? Or the BM one

Yes they are not expensive , however I wish I had purchased one when I was originally looking in 1998 as I could of had S11JAR for £325

I’d like to get J355 WHO to go with JE55 WHO but apparently it’s on something that was written off many moons ago, and the DVLA don’t have a process to sell such plates :-(

Well as I have MY64 ZED on my 64-plate E89, I thought I would try to find MY53 ZED for the wife's 53-plate E85.
However, this is apparently on a Nissan. Hmmm, I wonder what model?

I submitted about 10,000 requests and made a list of each one that was available in the old style black and yellow California. Then the task of choosing just one from a list of 20-30 possibles. :? In the end Z4 roadster was what I wanted to boast the most.
