sad

i can't help thinking that these figures are just a good way of uping peoples premiums - I hate insurance with a passion

Posted this on PH the other day - my mate has just had his Elise S1 written off due to vandalism.

The worst is to come though: earlier this year the car was a victim of a hit and run in a car park so it's been off the road for 6 months of this year having new a front clam and suspension replacements. The two non-fault incidents in a year mean he's lost his no claims bonus, meaning he can no longer afford to run the car even if he bought a replacement. Now that would have me bloody furious and I'd be out looking for the kneecaps of any car vandalising scrote.

Any - as you have claimed - twice without another party paying for it.

Two non faults = loose NCB? Which insurance company is this? :fuelfire:

I'll ask and report back! I guess from PVR's response that all companies are the same though. I had assumed my mate's NCB hadn't been protected but then maybe with two claims it would still be the same result?

Even if NCB is protected, the base premium still rockets due to the claim but you keep the same discount percentage, but than applied to the (much) higher amount.

Yeah, I suspect that insurance companies will have small print to part you with hard earned cash...

My view is that a non-fault claim puts you at less risk. Lightening doesn't (often!) strike twice...

My wife has had two fault claims in 2 years 1 month, but luckily her premium has hardly gone up considering everybody was talking about 40% increases. She has Protected NCB and of course isn't insured on the Z4.

And you suggested me dropping by your place? :o

I've had two fault claims in the last two years - silly things really... all around my own drive and both < £600

no real increase, one was on mrs gannet's policy, one on my own.

advised my insurance company of the second claim this year - no change in renewal premium, but lost NCB protection, but kept number of years.... mrs gannet's insurance, no change...

it's all an odd business :o

You're not wrong. Just renewing my wife's insurance at the moment. No joking, but the lowest quote for her with 1 yr NCB is £300 cheaper than the lowest quote with 2 years NCB. Only explanation I can assume is that people are more likely to crash in their second year of unsupervised motoring?

I am now totally confused about how they calculate your insurance bill. Yikes!
