Vandal damage

Good evening everyone,

I have a bit of vandal damage where someone has tried to break in by using a screwdriver (probably a flat head) to bend the metal weather strip that runs parallel with the upright on the off side. I have found the part on bmminiparts which cost £10 but I'm a little unsure how it comes off whether it clips on over the rubber seals or if you have to remove a series of screws holding the rubber weatherstrip in place?

I have attached some pics to explain the part.

any help or pointers would be great

thanks

Patrick

Sorry I can't give any specifics, but check out RealOem.com as the exploded diagrams may give you some clues

Yeah I tried to flatten it but the finish started to break down and flak off.

On the bminiparts it has the diagrams mentioning some blind rivet nuts, fillIster head screw and expanding rivet.

Just had a look now by feeling underneath the metal strip for these rivets/ etc and just wonder if the metal strip just pops off? They also scratched the paintwork as well!

Thanks for the input

If its the part shown on this REALOEM diagram then it looks expensive.

You may also want to contact these guys for second hand options...just make sure they remove it carefully!

Why do this parasites on society do this?! :headbang:

Least they didnt damage the paint.

Cant advice on how to remove the weather strip either.

I dunno. Looks rather like the expensive bit that wraps over the top. The cheap bit is the rubber weatherstrip the metal fits over. I hope I'm wrong. If not, looks like a repair and figuring out how to correct the finish is the better option.

As srhutch said, incredibly thick. How can anyone capable of holding a screwdriver think that would get them anywhere?

Maybe pure malicious behaviour? These people are beyond comment. If you catch them at it and try and do something about it, it's you that gets into trouble. Then they come back and do it again. Gits

The part is no. 5 on the diagram but I can't see where these rivets are located....

I will have a more detailed look to see how it connects to the upright
