Valvetronic issues and the EML

Morning folks,

Right i'm having a few problems with my E85 coming up with the dreaded EML light and going into limp mode.

I've checked it out using Carly and it suggests is the valvetronic carry on. Now the thing is it only seems to come on as a warning when i've travelled a distance and then parked up for a short while (nipping to the shops say), then started the car again.

Usually, once its cooled down (the next day) its clears the fault and will be fine for a week or so, then it'll do it again.

Any ideas? :headbang:

Oh, its a 2007 E85 2.0i

Does it idle OK? 2.0l engines seem to suffer more eccentic shaft sensor failures as well as valvetronic motors unfortunately. Not sure why as these parts are also used on the 6 cyl models and don't seem to go wrong that much at all.

hi Ph001,

It ticks over like a sewing machine and drives ok, except for going very slow. I'm guessing the sensor is the one on top of the rocker cover. That seems to be clarted up with oil, so i've cleaned that off which stopped it doing it so much.

I'll have a read of these posts and see what i can deduce

Cheers

Reading those posts suggests its the shaft sensor...i'll investigate doing that and sort it.

Yikes....clean one from a breakers yard maybe? I wonder if anybody has actually gotten into the sensor to see what fails. Always seems to coincide with oil contamination so I'm guessing there's some delicate electrical bits in there. Wouldn't surprise me if they could be refurbished if they come apart.
