Valve Cover Gasket

Hello,

I'm looking to replace my valve cover gasket myself. I was wondering while doing the job if there are any other parts I should order just to have as a back up for doing this job? For example, with these cars being so old are there any hoses that I'll have to disconnect that might crack? Or any extra nuts to get?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Which engine bud?

N52 there are loads of other gaskets worth buying

M54 less so

E85 M54, get the rubbers seals that go around the fixing bolts as well. Nothing else you can really change whilst is apart. Oil filter housing gasket is a favourite but there is no crossover in what you have to take apart to do it.

May be worth doing your oil filter housing gasket- if one is shot the other will be too

Ccv pipes are a watch out as they can crack but not difficult to replace

Gotcha, I’m placing a big order to redo my brakes and trunk hydraulic and valve cover. When I changed the spark plugs I saw some oil. My car has been burning oil since I often need to refill. Would that mean that some is slipping through this gasket? I’m not sure when the last time it was replaced.
