Valve Cover Bolt Seals- N52 Engine

I did buy replacement bolts (07129902813) for the Valvetronic motor. As it happens I was glad I did because I found the one underneath was missing :o Someone had been in there before...

I'm not sure whether it's ok to reuse them but it's peace of mind for the sake of a few quid. The aluminium valve cover bolts definitely have to be replaced because they're torque to yield.

Here's my full parts list

I also did the spark plugs while I was in there.

It's not too bad a job, check you've got everything you need (sounds like you're on that!) and work through it methodically. The most fiddly bit was moving the fuel injector connectors. You'll need a low range torque wrench and external torx sockets.

Thank you. I have everything on there now apart from the 13627530413 x2.

Can I ask where they are for.

I suspect that they also for the Valve Tronic? But I can only remember the two extra screws for the plastic case?
 
They're the two bolts which ground & secure the ignition wiring loom to the valve cover. Again I'm not sure how critical these are to replace but the dealer recommended them. (You could always re-use them and replace later if you want to get on with the job)

I have got to pick up the 3x 07129902813 from Harrogate BMW tomorrow afternoon. I will give them a shout and get the other the 13627530413 x2 at the same time.

I am glad I phoned up and ordered the extra bolts as they had only got me two not three for the Valvetronic.

Everything is now ordered for pick up tomorrow. I had to buy an additional torque wrench as my other one started at 30 and some picks unclip the injectors. I also bought a screw extractor kit (I really hope I don't have to use this).

Like you say it seems easy enough (the plastic n52 top does look a lot harder to fit correctly). I will take my time- I have got all torque spec's so it's just the matter of following instructions.

Hi Pal, hoping you'll pick this up, did you have the torque settings for the valvetronic screws as I'm changing my gasket this weekend. I think I've found it but just wanted some confirmation, is 4Nm plus 90 degree angle turn? Cheers

Hi Buddy,

I have just tried logging into my newtis but it won't let me in any more.

The guide here says- 4 Nm. There was no mention of the 90 degree turn (I believe you just do that on the rocker cover).

PS: don't remove the whole fuel rail as you will have to replace the O rings as they do in some of the guides.

Just unclip the clips for the fuel injectors:

Thanks for all the replies, I paid for access to the BMW TIS off ebay, rightly or wrongly, and confirmed my initial thought 4Nm + 90 degrees
