Hi Guys.

Has anyone got a part number or even better a link for where I can get the bolt seals (see picture) for my z4 Coupe.

I seem to be able to find them for any other car other than my own.

I can't seem to find the part on realoem either.

Although I am now thinking that it might just be the 2.5ltr car that has these and not the 3ltr? Can anyone shed any light?

The part number for the item for the 2.5ltr is:
11121437395

This is the first time I've seen mention of valve cover bolt seals for any N52 engine.

As per Realoem, I can't see any evidence of any. So my guess is you don't need them.

Cheers Jamie,

It's looking like it might be the case but I wanted to check of anyone else had used them on the SI engine as I didn't want to get halfway through a job and not have all the parts I needed.

I guess worst case I could reuse the old ones if that was the case but I would prefer not too.

You will see that new bolts are fitted, they have the seals on and he uses a pack, all have to be torqued down.

Cheers Colb,

I just reg checked the car in that video because I thought it was over complicated in how he was doing it compaired to the research I have done for mine. The cars a BMW 523 which has the 2.5 N52 rather that the 3ltr which I have in the Coupe so I guess it's a slightly different procedure on the older engine.

I can find a lot of O rings online for the 2.5 but none for the 3ltr so I am going to guess that I don't need any.

Apologies in advance if I'm treating you like a fool............not intended.
Just checking though, when you talk about 'older' engines and viewing the image you put up, are you getting confused with the older M54 2.5i engine? The image you show looks just like the kit I recently used on the wife's with the M54 engine.
I'm afraid I have no experience at all with the N52.................. just wanting to make sure you're not getting confused between the two?

Hi Mate,

No offence taken- happy to be helped- I am new to BMW's.

I was wrong when I said older engine - I should have said smaller engine :?

The youtube clip that Colb sent (in my limited knowledge) looked like how to change the valve cover on the N52B25 engine which looks like it has a slightly different construction that the one in my Silvertop Coupe. The only reason I questioned as it looks like the chap in it was taking spark plugs out to change the valve cover (which I was unaware that you had to do on a 3ltr).

I think the image 1st posted perhaps is of the engine that you mention (the only reason I used that image was to show the "O rings" that I wasn't 100% sure if I needed) because I couldn't find any kit for the 3ltr that sold them, nor the actual OEM part number for the rings in relation to the 3ltr SI.

Cleared that up then.
Hopefully a quick check by someone with the same car/engine will confirm it all for you.

The picture you posted of the gasket set is a set for a 2.5 E85, not long ago I replaced mine, exactly the same set. If you are checking the oem parts site using your Vin number you should find the gaskets listed and if indeed they have the round seals for the bolts they would be in the diagram and part listing.

Just had a look myself for N52 engine and came up with this
https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=BU53-USA-06-2007-E85-BMW-Z4_30si&diagId=11_3737
No round seals listed, so they are not fitted, I wonder if they come with the bolts which I seem to recall should be replaced if indeed there are any. Only way to check is take them out and have a look unless someone with knowledge can post on here to advise.

Also there are two versions of the 3 litre N52 fitted to the Coupe. The earlier version has the silver plastic engine cover & magnesium valve cover, the later version has the black plastic engine cover & plastic valve cover. They use different valve cover gaskets and bolts.

Thanks buddy.

This is turning into a right head scratcher. I might just take it to a specialist and let them get on with it.

I will give it another hour or so searching on the PC and will give up.

I think I have got to the bottom of it!

Vin number in on Real OEM and a quick look at the housing (defiantly magnesium and not plastic). Looks like my car is a late 2006 that was registered in 2007.

https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=DU52-EUR-09-2006-E86-BMW-Z4_30si&diagId=11_3737

So my (limited) understanding is that the later cars (black covers, plastic valve covers) use steel bolts (that can be reused) and the earlier models use aluminium bolts (so can only be used once).

So for my engine (magnesium valve cover) I need the following:

Gasket:
11127581215

Aluminium screws (can only be used once):
11120409288

Things to also consider while its off (might as well as could fail later on)

Valvetronic Shaft Sensor Gasket:
11127528242

Eccentric Shaft Actuator Seal:
11127552280

Further information and help on what tools are needed:
https://www.bmwrepairguide.com/bmw-e60-valve-cover-gasket-repair-2004-2010-5-series-n52-engine/

100% going to pay for a specialist to do it. For the extra cash that it will cost it's got to be worth it for the peace of mind that if they not I mess up the seal they can redo it.

That all sounds correct  Same engine as mine.

I'd suggest the two optional seals/gaskets you list are required since they're removed or disturbed during removal of the valve cover.

For the Eccentric Shaft Actuator (Valvetronic motor) seal I had 11377516302, might be an early/late N52 difference.

Its strange as when I use my vin I get this:

https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=DU52-EUR-09-2006-E86-BMW-Z4_30si&diagId=11_3736

But when I search for the part I get this:

https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=BU51-EUR-10_2004_E85_BMW_Z4_30si&diagId=11_3736#11127552280

Same SI engine I guess but the part's are a different price and weight.

Searching using your VIN should get the correct part for your car.

RealOEM shows
11377516302 up to 10/2006
then
11127552280 from 10/2006

When was your car manufactured? The N52 / N52K changeover was around 10/2006.

Ah,

Right you are.

When I put my Vin in I get the 09/2006

[ref]E86[/ref],

Just out of interest did you reuse or change the bolts part number "07129902813"?

They are the three ones that you use to dissemble the Valvetronic Shaft Sensor? (the two on top and the one underneath)

I have watched numerous mechanic's video's for the cars that have our engine in and no one has done it on the Magnesium block.

But when you check with BMW manuals they state you should (I also notice that they say you should change the shafts that you place the coil packs into when the heads off but no one says that you should).

I have a package coming today with everything I need (minus those three bolts)... So I am thinking that the right thing to do is to put off doing it this weekend and get those three bolts ordered.

I decided to do it myself. A Yorkshire specialist quoted me £280 to change it. £150 plus vat was for the labour. Interesting to know that they didn't mention the 3 bolts I missed and the coil pack shafts.

They however mentioned "11127565165" which is for the oil filler cap which might be of interest to you.
