I'm plannng on a remap soon. On Cutters someone has suggested to get the most out of a remap you should have this done first? Now according to the history mine had an Insp2 Oct last year, so should this have been done then? If so i there a way of checking they actually did it?!

i always get a shim report from simpson... dealers do this too... if it had insp 2 last year id expect to see that report....

The only way to check they've done it is to have been there when they did it.

Second best way is to get the before & after report of the measurements.

The apocryphal tale is that the technician decides whether they need doing or not by simply listening to the engine. If they're very quiet then they need doing (as they're 'tight'), and if they're very noisy they need doing (as they're loose). It shouldn't be this way, but I know for a fact that it can happen, and I'd not be too concerned if they were simply upfront about it, and reduced the Inspection by £300-£400 to cover the time they didn't spend doing them.

It's best not to worry about whether they've been done or not, and to simply get them redone somewhere you trust, so that you know for certain.

should be done insp 1 and 2, although lots of places only do on insp 2.
Which is wrong, as they're still charging for it.

If they're not doing it, then the price of an Insp1 should be less than £300.

Do they do this by just plugging the computer in?

I'm getting ISP 2 done this week and the tech guy told me its all they did. So if its within tolerance they do nothing...

First I've heard of them being measured 'externally/electronically'. Everyone I've known who does them measures them with micrometers & feeler gauges.

Maybe there's something on the newer M5/M6/M3 engines that allow this, but not on our's.

thanks. I'll hit them over the head. If their policy is only check if something goes wrong. Surely preventing a problem is better than a cure!
