Valve air bleed

A few weks ago I was getting a tapping noise at start up. Took her in (with 8000 mi on the clock) and the folks at my BMW dealers had it back in less than an hour. The rep said it required an air bleed. Saying that air gets in there an sometimes needs to be bled. Now the noise is back. Anyone ever hear of this condition. I guess I'm still thinking when a valve is noisy it's bent, or the oil is low. or insufficent oil pressure. Is this going to be a problem that appears from time to time? Is my BMW dealer blowing smoke Up my BVD's?

What did they bleed air from?

(Mind you I have no idea and no help for this, but i'm curious too :P)
He simply said they bled the lifters. Having never heard of this before I stared at him (deer in the headlights kind of look)and he went away. My repair invoice reads as follows: PERFORMED SIB 11 09 07. PERFORMED BLEEDING 5 TIMES WITH 15MI DEFECT CODE 11 12 94 39 00. I'm pretty sure it's a legitmate procedure but it's new to me. And with the return of the noise I'm wondering if this problem will continue to appear. Has anyone else had this problem? Could it be something I'm doing? I'm not an aggresive driver. Any input would be appreciated.

Could make sense that if air gets trapped in the lifters they make noise.

I would take it back and have them look into it again as it could be a lubrication problem (might have used the wrong oil, or some impurities are obstructing the oil flow into the lifters). I can look up tonight what's the SIB 11 09 07 and let you know.

PS: if you google for "SIB 11 09 07" you'll find some articles regarding people with the M54B25 having the same issue. It appear that if the bleeding procedure doesn't work, dealer with replaced the cylinder head with a new design with improved oil flow.

Sorry, my TIS is not updated enough and I don't have that SIB. However, I would take the car back to the dealer, tell them that nothing changed and also pointing out how you have read about other folks having a similar problem which was solved by a replacement of the head with an improved one... Let us know and if you get a chance to have a copy of that SIB, I would like to take a look.
