I think the time has come to sell my Z4M :( Just after some advice on what it's worth in a private sale.

It's a 57 Z4M Coupe in Imola Red
SatNav
Bluetooth
New Tyres all round
11 months MOT
36k Miles.

I'd say based on the information you've provided that you should be starting that around £16k-£16.5k. It's got some decent options, looks unmodified and from the photo you posted looks in good order. I'm assuming service history is complete, running-in service done on time, no dings, wheel scuffs, pending Inspection II etc.

Thanks guys..

Yep, full history inc initial 1k service, one wheel is curbed but others are ok (I did that on a run out). Service isn't due for 12k miles, no scratches or scrapes, or modifications.

Just need to decide if i want to go through it it or not :?

Sounds about right - are there any mods that would push up the value?

Also remember the valuation here is sometimes what people would expect to sell it for, not where to price it - i've read quite a few stories of people being stung by valueing at the price they WANT for it, and being dissapointed when potential buyers expect to negotiate a deal.

Looks like a nice example! Few weeks too late for me :D

Remember the sub 40k milers are a tad rarer, so there's also value in that.

.

I'm not sure that there are which is probably why so many owners revert to stock when selling. Nav was hotly debated a while back, but it was a fairly even split on whether it was a must have or not.

StevenH72 you should DEFINITELY get an imola coupe .. clearly the way forward ;)

The blue colours (Midnight, Monaco, Interlagos and Carbon Black) are my favourites, but Imola was definitely near my short list.

Somebody on Pistonheads has just posted a similar age and mileage car and is struggling to sell at £15.5k albeit with a poorly written advert.

With an Ins II as the next service £16.5k may be sligtlly high especially if you want to sell relatively quickly IMO.

ETA the brakes usually need doing around this mileage too from experience which will be another factor.

They are two big considerations with this mileage.

That said if the car you mention on PH (http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/bmw/z4m-coupe/bmw-z4m-coupe/1337261) had decent photos and a better advert I do think it'd sell, even without the carbon leather trim!

It's amazing what a good advert can do for a sale.

I never really understand the concerns people have with the Inspection II service, it's not expensive given what it covers, and defiantly not if it's from a specialist (I used to have a TVR, talk about expensive services, the equivalent of an Inspection II on my T350T was close to £1.5k if you got all the warning fixed as well). Plus it's still 12k miles away, so not like it needs to be done in the next week.

I appreciate all of the advice though :)

I'm in no rush to sell,I don't need the cash so will likely keep hold of it for a while longer unless an offer comes along. I might think about advertising it on PH in a few months and see if there is any interest.

I think the concerns are two-fold:

At circa £1200 (list price) it's £750 more than for a 3.0 but hopefully that's understood when buying the car. That's the M tax I guess.

The main one is whether the dealer actually carries out the work you're paying for. Unless you ask for the before and after valve clearances report then you don't know that the car didn't just have the basics done then just sit in the workshop.

It's a nice selling point if its been done. If you have two similar cars and one has an oil change due, the other an Inspection 2 next, you're likely to think seriously about which you buy...

A 30kish car may need brakes and an Ins II within 10-12K miles and a 40Kish car which is £1k cheaper may have just had them done which creates a £2.5k+ gap in price for the sake of 10-15k miles which is quite a bit on a £15k car plus the hassle of getting it done.

I purchased mine on 32k knowing the Ins II was due this this year but it had new tyres on the rear, all of the brake discs and pads just done and 12 months tax so i knew that i will get the Ins II done this year and then my bills (in terms of servicing) will be relatively cheap going forward.

If i was spending £16k on a Z4M currently and many had an ins II looming i'd probably switch to looking for a lower mileage thats just had an Ins I or similar using the £16k + the Ins II money.

To be fair yours looks like a nice example and good examples will always sell as soon as someone comes to view it :)

if you can find a 32k Z4M, buy it.. Insp2 or not.

FWIW if you pay more than £900 for a dealer Ins2 you're being ripped off, so quoting 1200 should be irrelevant.
