My dealership requires the V5 and photo ID of either driving licence or passport. Nothing less is accepted.

What constitutes proof of ownership of a vehicle ? Sorry, random question, but as my V5 very clearly states that it is not proof of ownership I've always wondered how is prove a vehicle is mine if I had to...

That is because it isn't yours ....

I think you have a copy of my original purchase invoice so you can clearly see that I am the owner :evil:

The Imobalizer chip is built in to both plastic key and the normal diamond key so wouldn't work with just a metal blade clone..

Yep, supposedly the car and the key have a little conflab and decide on one of 3 billion random numbers that they'll agree on next time the key is used.
Quite how that translates across using two or three keys is unclear but I do know that a mate of mine had a 5 series where the number sequence got out of kilter during a heavy thuunderstorm which left him stranded in the rain unable to get into his car.
Apparently it was such a rare event that his car was sent back to Germany so they could find out exactly what happened... :roll:

They are a separate element to the rest of the key. I had a car that if you took the key to bits to replace the battery the chip could easily be removed.

It's like some of the tags you find on items in shops. They are passive but when near a reader that effectively powers them and they transmit data back.
