Vacuum pump leak

Hi all,

I have a 2.0i E85, and I noticed some smoke from the engine bay, which turned out to be oil dripping onto the exhaust from the vacuum pump above. Please see attached pictures.

I’m aware the seals sometimes go on the vacuum pump, but I thought it seemed odd that the short hose above this also seemed oily. I’ve just removed this hose (the one to the brake servo) to find a bit of oil inside. Is it normal for the seals on the pump to fail and cause oil to get into the hose?

The brakes are working fine I believe, it doesn't seem to be losing crazy amounts of oil (not topped up since service 8 months ago), no error codes. I’ve had a bit of a rough idle for a while (probably unrelated?), which I’ve been trying to get to the bottom of recently.

Thanks for the help.

I have the exact same issue, I thought the leak was coming from the rocker cover gasket so I replaced it, but the engine bay was still smoking. I had another look today and stuck my phone behind the engine and realised that the vacuum pump was soaked in oil, dripping almost. Did you end up changing yours? If so how did it go? I am thinking about doing mine soon, I also have the 2.0 engine

I found a great vid on YouTube running through the gasket replacement process to stop the leak:

Hi Roshroops, sorry, just seen your post. Yeah, I changed the two gaskets in the vacuum pump attached to the engine, and it's been fine since. It was fairly easy although a little annoying working blind to loosen and tighten the bolts on the back of the engine.
