Vacuum for quick detailing in the garage?

I really like having my car clean inside with no dust, or dirt on the floor or dash. But, it seems like within 1 day things start to show up again. I currently have a big dyson vacuum that I use in my house and I bring it outside to clean my car - it is not convenient.

So, I want to get a vacuum just for the garage and quick touch up jobs in the car. I am looking at the little battery powered handhelds and also the wall mounted wet/dry vacs that have long hoses. I'm just curious if anyone has a favorite vacuum that they keep near the car and what model it is?

Thanks
charlie

I use a Miele Cat and Dog as it has wheels, is very easy to manouvre, very powerful and as the name indicates - can suck up even small hairs etc.

Came out as best in the consumer testings as well.

Great - thank you for the recommendation. Does it include any type of attachments that make it easier to vacuum a car?

yes, underneath the lid there are brushes and pipes that allow you to vacuum between the door and the seat for example. The brush head itself is fine for the dash etc, but can NOT be used for any screen or plastic as it will scratch (but is great to get the dirt trapped on the pedals for example).

Note that this is NOT battery powered as non of those I have found to be any good.

I've been wondering about that.

Since I can park the car right in front of the entrance to my "workshop," I just use the shop vac, which has gobs of power. But as the OP points out it seems like there's dust and dirt all over the interior the moment I turn my back, and I thought one of those little 12V powered cleaners might be good to keep in the boot for quick on-the-fly clean-ups. Are they really no good?

Slight hijack ... sorry about that.

+1 for the Miele - best vacuum I've ever owned and great for cleaning the car.

I still use a Black & Decker car cleaner that I plug into the cigar lighter. It's over 20 years old and is first class.

I have one of these linky

Wet or dry and has a blow function so you can dry the car off as well...

Am I the only one at the BP picking fag ends and gum out of the self-service machine :x

What does everyone else in town do?

I use this the Numatic NVP-200, it's the commercial version of Henry. Does the job and very sturdy..

Being street parked and not always in a position to cable the house vac outside.

I got a Dyson DC34 handheld the other week.

15mins on normal setting.
6mins on max power.

3.5hr charge.

But probably need to get some attachments. Like the stubborn dirt & flexi head.

Only used it in the family car so far.

I just use the house Dyson Pet Allergy model. Seems pretty good and a nice long hose on it to. I don't have a drive and my garage is elsewhere (without power) so I just run a long extension lead out onto the road.

I just picked up a cheap dirt devil Hoover from Asda about 2 years ago it was around £30 I think. Nice and small does the job for car and gets used most weeks when I wash it. For the money you can't go wrong. Only downside it's a bit old fashioned and still needs bags so I'd try and pick up a bagless one if I saw a decent cheap one.

Although my Dad has something similar to this in his garage http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4062116/Trail/searchtext%3EBUSH+WET+AND+DRY+VACUUM+CLEANER.htm and that seems to work brilliantly on the car.
