V5C for owners?

This is not a trick question... Is there a different V5c for the owner? Rather than the one which has "registered keeper" on it?

Some people believe it's because the DVLA owns the car, hence you are only ever the registered keeper.

Maybe why 'your' car (property) can be taken legally from you...

I don't personally buy that, but one of the reasons I've heard you don't get an 'ownership' paper.
 
Had a few company cars over the years and never once saw a V5. Maybe lease companies aren't quite abiding by the law in this respect? It would seem that the registered 'keeper' should really be the person who has possession of the vehicle regardless of ownership status. Company cars must all be registered to the same place rather than the individual driver's addresses.
 
Don't know if this adds to the topic ... But my brother has a car in lease and the V5 is in his name and to his address even though I presume the car is "owned" by Mercedes Benz finance

... Just thought I'd put it out there...

Have been lucky enough to do the final payment for my z after 4 yrs of payments, finance company say its all good, but my existing V5C has in big bold red text at the front saying that this doc does not prove ownership of vehicle, only who is registered to pay road tax etc...

So, is there any document to prove I legally own the car? Ie no outstanding finance?
 
I bought my car outright and don't have a document saying I own it. Just registered keeper. I have the sales invoice just like you would with a fridge or television. If you bought such as a new Landrover defender for use on a large estate or New M3 just for racing you wouldn't even need a registration document. This has me wondering if there are any loopholes where you could buy a car without the tax and reclaim the vat for business use and then register it later on a Q plate. I could do with a new Lamborghini ride on lawn mower :wink:
 
Hmm, just hadn't really noticed the lettering on the v5c before tbh.

Also I guess that why its all important to get the HPI done when buying any car... However does leave it open to abuse and fraud and the like if you're not careful :(
