Using too much fuel?

1 more thing!

I have a 53 plate, 2.2 Z4 and as of late the best I can get the mpg counter to is 29.1 mpg, I used to get 36mpg and I really feel like it's using more fuel than it should.

Any ideas?

My mileage has gone down a little, too. Of course, after 2 //M club days at the Performance Center in SC, I'm driving her just a little harder than I used too.

I'm currently getting 31.7mpg from my 2.2. (according to computer)
On probably 50/50 split of motorway & busy A roads.

I'd say i drive pretty conservatively most of the time - so i would say you're not far off if you drive a bit heavier than me...

checked your tyre pressures, fluid levels etc? both can have a big effect on economy

uneven tyre wear? alignment issues can cause fuel economy to drop too

how long was it since you did an oil change and also did you use a different grade of oil? too thick an oil can also reduce your fuel economy

That's about what I get with my 2.5i SE mostly B roads and town driving.

On a recent drive to Bordeaux via the Hull ferry I got 37mpg at a steady 80 using cruise control in the UK, whist on French toll roads 32mpg at 90mph, speed set by gps so car indicating a few mph higher. these figures are from the OBC so probably not that accurate but seems about right!, not bad for the type of car it is!.

If the change in your mpg is not due to driving style or conditions then I would check it manually between top ups, I agree with Gorbash12346 and would check the things he suggests. If all else fails get the dealer to stick it on the computer and check it out for engine faults, trouble with doing this it will take about 10 years to recover their labour charges with any improvement in fuel economy. :D

Not a great believer in the on board computer - it's only a guide. Best to do a proper check from fill to fill. But 30 mpg on mixed driving is not too bad i.m.o.

Maybe its due to the warm weather? using your A/C or driving with the roof down on the A roads does use more fuel.

Really? Out of a 2.2 :o I get 32 out of my 3ltr

I've been showing 37mpg over the last 1500 miles of mixed M'way and A/B road 30 mile commute, but no town work which was about 35mpg when checked on a tank. I've noticed that leaving the sport button on hits about 4mpg off over a period, even without pushing on, and a lot more if you do  (2.5 SE)

this might be something ......... a dicky lambda sensor will switch the fuel delivery to super rich ............
I know these things cos it happened to me :D fitted a new one, fuel consumption was back to normal
