Not long had my Z4 S Drive 2.3i M Sport 2011 The Top would not work with the key fob eventually I checked the Battery not sure how old it is yet ! but it needed charging after it was fully charged it worked — is this normal ?
I believe so, yes. Takes a lot of power to move the roof. Could well be the original battery, in which case you should look to replace it as when they start to fail they can cause a multitude of spurious warnings.
Personally, with a bit of mechanical sympathy, I always lower the roof with the engine running. As I intend to keep my car for a long time I am happy to exchange posing for longevity.
Agree with above recommendation, only drop the roof when the engine is running. One exception is when I have been away from the car for a while and it's parked in full hot sun. Cools the car off quicker before you get in if you do it beforehand but don't get many of those hot days in England.
if it is the battery, replace ASAP as this could cause the handbrake failure which will cost over £200 to put right as most garages will run a diagnostic and then a software download.
Happened on mine and it initially showed wheel speed sensor, the garage changed this then the handbrake failure popped up - all under warranty but would not have been happy having to pay for that :!:
I disagree.
Replace elder or the original batteries after 8-10 years.
Due to the energy management of these cars, the motor will always start, but the comfort ecu's will refuse their jobs.
With an updated AGM battery, the top always can be moved without a running motor.
She never gets actually interviewed and challenged on all this stuff. No defo not a fan of the whole concept. (Apologies as don't want to hijack the thread so will shut up)
