using 18" and 19" tires - safe?

Hello all,
Currently I'm using 19" tires. Would it be safe to temporarily use an 18" for a spare? A 17" ?

I'm sure there would be speed limitations as a pre-caution.

Thank you.

I don't know about your driving laws, but as long as the rolling circumference is a near match I wouldn't see a problem as an emergency 'get-you-home' wheel.

I'm pretty certain the space saver wheels in most cars don't have the same rolling circumference. I remember using one on one of my Imprezas and the poor old 4wd was in terrible trouble.

I used a 225/45-17 wheel when I had my 265/30-19 wheel in for repair. Drove like that for two days. No faults. :thumbsup:

Appreciate all of the input. Yes I've used a donut spare on a Honda before but I wasn't sure about a Z4 since it's a tad bit more complicated and touchy about things.
Thanks all.
Mike

Emergency, limited use as comments above.
I suspect the Z will handle like a 'pig' as you say. An 18" wheel with the correct tyre will have closer circumference to original than an Emergency tyre however.
