Used Z4 Prices going up?

I bought my Z4 (1 preivous owner) from BMW dealer for £12.5k only 6 months ago. I think I can trade it in for £12.5k now.

it's a VERY late 04 (28/05/04 - i think 54 starts from 01/06/04 right). Think you got a really good deal. much better than mine!
I took advantage of a really good deal at the worse time of year for people to be selling convertibles, combined with so-called economic crisis: 3 days before Christmas Day! Hence the price I paid. Should really add £150 onto that for the new set of springs I had to fit immediately though, plus rear tyres within the first 3 months if I'm being fully honest :oops:. But a 5 year-old car with an original list of £34k has aleady done the worst of it's depreciation: in another 5 years time I'd expect our £11k cars to still be worth £5k at bare minimum.

well it's only going to get even more confusing in the next decade when it's 10,60,11,61, etc.
This car reg system is terrible! Quite why we couldn't have a simpler system, I don't know. Something like 2 letters to identify the region (postcode related rather than invent something new again?) , 2 numbers for the year (e.g. 09), and 3/4 random numbers/letters, I think the German system is something related to this?

e.g. FK 04 ALLY

FK = postcode area (Falkirk)
04 = year registered
ALLY = :D

yeah i think the zeds will hold up ok, as i say ive been looking at z3 prices, even on the low end ones if its in good condition they still fetch decent money, with the z4 being a better and prettier car you'd expect it to hold up a bit better than the z3 in its old age.

Hi forum,

I purchased my z4 3 months ago from the BMW dealer in Exeter. I reckon I got the deal of the century.

Immaculate 05 2.2 silver roadster, full black leather, full service history although only 27k, one lady owner, whom they sold the car to and maintained, parking sensors, remote hood down function every other upgrade you could imagine - Asking price £13k

But, got him to refurb all 4 alloys (which are 18" upgrade), add chrome exhaust trims, clear indicators, full service and 12 months road tax, surely got to be worth £1k?!?!

Very happy camper, looks good, sounds good, drives beautifully and you couldn't even buy a new skoda for that money! What do you think? Pics soon...

Your deal was okay. Pre-facelift models are cheaper to buy.

My Z4 2.5i Sport (06 56) had 1 previous owner, black leather interior, i-pod interface, factory-fitted xenon headlights, mutli-function wheel, auto-dimming interior mirror, aluminium trim, wind deflector, and 40k miles on the clock. I bought it from BMW dealer for £12.5k six months ago.

Great to hear you got a good deal as well. I wanted one of the last pre facelift models, rear lights are sexier as are the front fogs and it has better curves in my opinion. Main point however is the following, a shed load of car for your bucks!

As it seems the norm to change the track mid way through, why not, what z version is the sexiest (as a generic model, ie not 2.5i or M etc)?
a) Pre facelift
b) post facelift
c) new z4

I think a) the original is the best and the trend setter, however, and this may sound controversial, its not the sexiest car out there, I bought mine for one thing, the drive of the car, and the six cylinder engine does sound nice... There are better drives, but not for £13k and a car that can be used everyday and BMW is right for me: -
Audi - steady eddie
Mercedes - old and boring
porsche - nob magnets
the list could go on
BMW = FUN

BMW should have fitted a cc top to the original and it might well have been the best car ever?!?!?

Keep it rag top imho ;)

Last thing you need on a fun roadster is more weight, complexity, blunted dynamics, cost and refinement... and a roof that is so slow that you are wet by the time it's up, or the lights have gone green and it's only half way down and you get abuse ;) :D

Totally agree - BMW's blatantly (and quite sensibly from a business point of view) gone after the Merc SLK rather than chase Boxsters with the new one. Not good for folk who prefer a sporty car...

I still can't find a low mileage well specced 3.0 Z4 for 11k at a main dealer, and thats what I got mine for back in May....I'm not bothered really tbh, but it's nice to think you got a good deal!

Edit - This is the cheapest 3.0 on BMW approved atm, 46k on it, and 14 grand!!

Well, have mentioned this before, but I completely agree - prices have defintely solidified over the last 6 months and the dealer are very open about it. Paid just over 17 for mine, at the time an 18 month old 3.0si Sport with 18K miles - just serious value. Now, the dealer would give me back what I paid for it and apparently they would put it back on for 2 - 3K over that.

This of course means that it would be a little bit close to M roadsters in my opinion, but there are a lot of people out there who would not be interested in an M car - so I guess thats why they can do that.

Interesting paid 17.5k for mine back in Jan 08 now just under 20k on the clock and better spec that this one wonder what they would sell her for.

That makes mine look like good value at 12k, just need to find a buyer now :tumbleweed:
Although I do have someone interested, they just need to sell their car...

Gosh... This is all very interesting to hear! I paid 16K for mine in April 08 and was offered 8K for a part ex by a BMW garage a month ago!!! Needless to say I laughed in the guys face as I was so shocked!!! What do you reckon I could get for mine privately now? It is an 05 plate SE manual (maldives blue) with 45ooo miles on the clock...

Hmm - difficult one there. I think back in early '08 prices were still at a premium, I personally don't think they've recovered to that point, however I wasn;t looking that hard back then so can't say with any certainty.

If yours is a 3.0 car - then I think maybe 13 private?

Hi csmith319 - thanks for your reply...

Unfortunately mine is only a 2.0litre... I obviously bought at the worst possible time!! I am still waiting for prices to rise...

It would be nice to think I could get 12K for it privately (at a push)...

Any comments happily received!

Cheers,

Prices have risen a lot since I bought mine in Jan, new owner picked it up today. Made a nice profit, not because I was greedy just prices in general have gone up. The buyer said he was looking at one priced £400 more than mine advertised online. Have a look on auto trader and piston heads to gauge prices of similar models. :thumbsup:

I paid £11k private for mine about 3 weeks ago (39k miles). Webuyanycar would only give me £9k for it, but considering the monstrous prices on BMW AUC, the excellent condition of mine (new bumper, for example), all the extras, and the fact it's so much fun to drive, I don't feel ripped at all.
