Used V8 Vantage or Nissan GTR ?

V8 Vantage isn't much quicker that the Z4///M, I do love the badge though 8) . GTR is ballistic and driven by many a poor driver. Had my bonnet sprayed with stones buy one, will never buy one.

Stick 20k in the piggy bank for your next car and enjoy a Z4 for a year.

GTR....

I love the Vantage but a totally different thing..

But you know that when you turn the key,the GTR will start and take you anywhere you want to be sedately or with chunder down your best shirt.

996 turbo are expensive and gash, fast yes but just an old reptile that will rape you at any oppertunity..

Depends if you want to be looked on as a pesron with style and taste or just a boy racer :poke:

I would consider a 997 Turbo, just appreciating too fast for me at the moment.

Yeah, perhaps I need to let the R8 back onto the top 3. Thanks Guys for making it a 4 horse race now (incl the Z4M). lol !

Which out of the AM and Nissan do you think would attract the most key in hand "haters" when I park it in the B&Q car park ?

Thanks for all the input so far guys.

You may, if not already done so get onto the GTROC forum. The R35 is a car which attracts a lot of different people with completely different car backgrounds but it is a car that a lot of guys who have had some seriously nice cars end up buying, even if it's just for 6 months.

There you will get a good idea of how it compares to the AM and the R8.

Oh and I noticed people mentioned depreciation earlier, what they failed to point out was the R35 prices for used cars even early models have started to climb due to the fact that the new versions are getting more expensive and the demand for 2nd hand ones is very, very buoyant.

Lovely car the R35, launch control is amazing and it sticks to the road like its superglued even at silly speeds but I love the look of the AM personally and the sound when you pull the fuse.

Another option would be the 4.7 Maserati GT again beautiful car, great to drive and can fit 4 adults with ease unlike the others.......although possibly something you don't need given the list.

Who knows what goes through the minds of scumbag car keying phycos. Personally I think you'll get equal amounts of worry, as there's always some feckr who will dislike you, your car, your hair, your clothes. That's just the way it is.

Ps, I'd probably stay well away from car parks :P

Spot on Angie, pulled the exhaust fuse out of my daughters boyf's AM and the sound is awesome!

My mate drove back up today from JM imports after having an intercooler fitted to the GTR, reckons he gets 700 hp from it with all the tweaks done. I had a go and the acceleration is phenomemal. Closest thing to a jet fighter on 4 wheels! His R34 V spec II and his GTR 35 will be featuring in Bonzai magazine. They are the best examples I have ever seen.

After the Carrera the AM may feel a bit disappointing apart from the noise.

The GTR is a GTR not my cup of tea but great car.

Again the Z4M will be a disappointment after the porky the Z is an incredible car but the porsche does everything better apart from being unique and rare.

At the end of the day the GTR will wipe the floor with most cars............but, when you go for a drive, park up your car and walk away, which one will make you turn around and look back and think " wow, that's my car, sexy!"
AM of course!

I love this thread, it's very much a "first world problems" thread but shamelessly brilliant.

If I ever had the choice, I think I would definitely go down the route of the AM purely for the refined ride and prestige attached to it. Let's face it, when you're growing up, out of all the dream cars you want to own, an Aston makes it onto the list at some point. A Nissan doesn't really do that.

The Aston says "I like cars" whilst the Nissan says "I like speed".

Both are amazing but there's just something that feels more exclusive about the Aston compared to Nissan even though there are less GTRs seen on the road.

Whichever you go for, you'll definitely love and enjoy.

I did the vantage thing and as a toy you can't get better. They are absolutely gorgeous, sound ridiculous and are great to drive around in. Downsides; not actually that great a performer in terms of out and out performance, interior build quality wasn't amazing (squeaky rear suspension), engine light kept coming on, satnav was poor, key was the same as a ford mondeo (a minor thing but it bugged me). My current 996 albeit far from standard, and even the z4m wiped the floor with it. But everywhere I went people wanted to take photos, I never tired of driving it.

I put a deposit on a GTR and was days away from taking it and then didn't. A set of pads, discs and tyres would polish off $10k. It wouldn't stay standard so the mod budget would be big and at the time at $130k I couldnt decide if it was value or not.. But the performance was beyond laughable on the road. I drove one back to back with a v8 R8 around the track and it was no contest. I didn't gel with the r8, felt a little cramped. BUT.. you park it, you walk away and you feel like you always have to qualify it with ''It's a nissan.. BUT..''. It felt very nissan inside, which isn't a bad thing, but you could have been in a 350 or a maxima almost. It's a great car, but it doesn't feel exotic whereas the vantage feels the epitome of exotic..

Which is annoying, because I still find myself trying to talk myself out of one next. But I know driving one, I'd see the likes of a fast porsche, 360, AM and would wish I had one.

At the risk of being shot down, my hunch is the only reason the V8V and GTR are being considered together is the their similar prices.

I'd go away and think about what sort of car you want, then come back with a budget and see what fits. They are chalk and cheese cars and it's a bit strange to be deciding between the two. Nothing wrong with it, just my opinion.

Hey thanks for the advice, but your analysis of why isn't required ! It's just as simple as I have never owned any of these cars yet and have wondered about owning them based on reading reviews and I have given myself a self imposed budget. I am coming from a 911. After these cars I could just as easily get a X5M lol. I don't need more than 2 seats and have 2 other 4 door cars to use as daily drivers. This purchase will be a weekend toy. :driving:

Good idea, we did considered the 3.0 Supercharged option, it was dismissed as my Partner says it looks like it is trying to hard to look good

Vantage, just to have had one.

Off topic but you mentioned cosworths, I wish to hell I'd have bought an escort 10 years ago and kept it, have you seen the prices of them now??? Mental money, even high mile stone chipped ones are fetching silly money.

Anyway sorry, as you were.
