Used car warranty worth it?

Hi guys,

Have just purchased a 2005 z4 3.0i on 34000 miles. I've been offered a used car warranty for lifetime ownership for £589. I'll probably keep the car for around

18 months to 2 years (missis getting broody) so is this worth it? I dont think the rear springs have gone yet, so I guess that is due but are there any other pricey

problems I could encounter?

Thanks for reading

Gawain

depends what it covers, I have had quite a few things done on mine so the BMW one is worth it I would say. Just having corroded brake pipes replaced on mine just now (£260), New wiper assembly when it wasn't parking at the bottom of the screen (£££), Corroded 108s (£££), Rear springs (£££), steering rack and sensor unit (££££).

Its not a BMW warranty its a private company. Have heard stories that getting a claim can be like getting blood from a stone so thinking I might

just put the same amount of money away in a savings account. If something goes wrong then its there and if it doesn't then beers on me! :D

I bought mine Approved Used so had a years AUC warranty which was useful and used :D - New Clutch, new Radio...

Didnt renew though and everything that has gone wrong with the car since either wouldnt have been covered or hasnt cost more than the warranty would have done for 1 year.. and Ive had the car 3+ years now...

'tis a gamble though :D

Paying for a lifetime warranty on a car you'll keep for 18 months to 2 years sounds an expensive way of doing it.

Read the small print of the policy and find what's really covered. Only then can you make a reasonable assessment of it.

Personally I don't bother with such aftermarket policies.

Everything will be "wear and tear" in the small print, and if not - then there will be the "betterment" clause so you only get a percentage back.

I've never taken an extended warranty on any vehicle, but it all depends on your circumstances.

I've got access to cheap parts and repairs through my father-in-law (car dealer) and his network of mates, so even if the worst happens it should still cost me less than a series of warranties would have over my past 13 years of driving. I've gone from a newer car which was in warranty when I bought it, to an older car with my Z4: the Z4 has the potential to strip me if something major goes wrong, but I'm taking the gamble and have £££ in a savings account just in case!

It's a gamble you take: do you feel lucky? (punk...)

Would not bother as said above not much will be covered when you really look into it and sadly the extended BMW Warranty is very expensive.

Thanks for replys. Think I'll leave the warranty and risk it. I'll let you know if anything goes wrong and it was a bad choice....thats assuming the engine

doesnt blow up and I have to sell my laptop :)
