My expectation was that I wanted nav, but unfortunately the cars just aren't out there, especially roadsters. There are too many cars that were specced without nav.
It would have cost me an additional £3k minimum to get the same car (mileage etc) but with nav and bluetooth, and even allowing for the fact that it will be worth more or easier to sell, there is no way that it is worth paying that.
When I come to sell it I'll price it accordingly and it will shift - the reason some of the cars have stuck for so long is that the prices are just too optimistic.

When I specced mine, the price of Nav had gone down, and with the discount it "only" costed me £1100 extra. Why anyone would spec an M for 44k and not add the 1.1k for the navigation system (including the extra board computer options, phone integration, music) is beyond me.

Seems a bit of the point of this has been missed, & I'll probs start getting a rep for mentioning this too much, but this is a question about /Ms only, & that perception that the engine/chassis/brakes etc are as good as they get, is most o f the point.
There's at least 2 guys on here recently have gone from an E92 M3 V8 to an E85 Z4M and to those guys I'm sure Nav was important, as it was standard on the E92M.
I wouldn't go and see a Z4M if it didn't have Nav.
If i was in the market for a 3.0se, si, 2.5, etc, it wouldn't be quite as important.

You could argue both sides... Yes an M car is top of the range but should a "true" sports car be weighed down by heavy optional extras????
Not having wouldn't put me off buying a good, straight M car. It didn't put me off buying a 3 year old Z4 coupe. (ok its not an M )
(Probably get roasted for saying this, but surely by adding SAT NAV and other optional extras, then BMW's claim of having "perfect 50/50 weight distribution" must be rubbish!)
IMO there are too many extras in cars that take the driver's eyes off the road and have an impact on road safety as it stands.
It's also now the norm for maufacturers to produce sports models that are stripped of any extras to reduce weight.... they still have the brass neck to charge more for these as well!!!
TBH I've never had SAT NAV and don't need it on my 5 mile commute to work. If I'm venturing further and don't know the route, I use a map beforehand to plan the route. I also find that reading road signs en-route does the job!
(If I did get lost I could always turn on my blackberry GPS and see where I am! )
You raise a good point here. I'd like to think I could keep running the Z for the next 15 years,...but with all th electronic hocus pocus on it I expect something quite expensive will fail and send the car to it's grave much earlier than that. Sometime I wish it was a very pure sports car with no trimmings. And imagine what that crappy SatNav screen will look like in 15 years if it's already looking like something from the Science Museum !

Latest is an iPhone app that integrates with the car so you can lock/unlock your car from anywhere in the world and start the climate control to set the temp in the car by setting timers, flash the headlights and or sound the horn if you have lost it in a car-park
