Used CAI Dinan Air filter 3.0 pre facelift $210

I purchased this Dinan air filter, cover, mass air sensor and duct for a 3.0 and tried it to install it in my 2.5., but it didn’t work quite as I expected (the engine was getting more air that it could handle). The filter element has been cleaned using the K & N filter cleaning kit; the gauze is in good shape, as well as the cover, mass sensor and duct. I’m asking $210 including shipping in the US via D.H.L,(outside US will be at buyer expense) Paypal is preferred payment method. If you are interested, please drop me a line at [email protected]

Well, the engine was hesitant and weak and between 3k to 4k it was totally out of stem , only after 4k it fell normal. When I visited Active Autoverke for a software upgrade, they explained to me that this was due to to much air for the amount of fuel that the stock injectors can deliver (2.5 engine), even with the software and they recommended to removed it. remember that this CAI is for the 3.0 engine and the mass sensor, ducting and cover box have a bigger diameter intake (although the diameter at the engine manifold is almost the same).

Let me know if you are still interested.

I was but not now.

Most likely the cause was the new MAF and not the intake. According to your write up, it was for the 3.0, and I can see that it would make a negative impact on drivability. The computer did not really know how to adjust the fuel mixture due to the different resistance/input that the MAF was providing and was leaning out the mixture at that RPM range. The calibration was all out of wack...

The intake, minus the new MAF would have allowed your engine to breathe better with no negative impact on drivabilty. I have the Helene performance air filter installed. It gives me better throttle response.

Tell me more about your software upgrade.

It cross my mind to modify the box to take the smaller mass sensor, I really like the Dinan set up, but it seems it's easier to sell this one and buy the correct one for my engine.

The AA software was a nice upgrade, it definitely fell a tad more powerful than before and is almost no difference in throttle response between sport mode or regular mode, AA stated in their older webpage a gain of 18 hp and 15 f/lbs gain or so. I’ll take the car to a dino one of these days to see how much is the real gain.

Gentlemen, I hope you guys don’t mind me joining this thread …

I am excited to know that Dinan is now offering a 50 State Emission CARB Legal intake system for our Z4's. :D

As you know, for us poor unfortunate souls here in California, any after-market engine modifications have to be CARB exempt. For quite some time now I have been looking into the AFE unit, but it was not CA Legal, and because of this, it was somewhat disappointing to me.

Anyways, and after reading all of your posts, I decided to call one of the local Authorized Dinan Dealers down here in San Diego (All German Auto). I spoke to one of there technicians, and they had “advised” me that if were to have there High Flow Intake System installed, and to properly obtain the HP and Torque gains as listed below, it was highly recommended that I have the Engine Software installed as well. Hmmm.

Dinan Stage 2 Performance Engine Software - Product Number: D900-27Z @ $399.00
Dinan High Flow Intake System Product Number: D760-0008 @ $299.00

There total price for the parts, labor and installation, including State taxes was about $907.00, and about
$800.00, for when you mail in your 10% rebate.

Anyways, this is what the Dinan tech had quoted to me...

Maximum Horsepower Gain +8 @ 6500 rpm (with Stage 2 Engine Software)
Maximum Torque Gain +8 lb-ft (with Stage 2 Engine Software)

That amounts to approximately $100.00 per 1 HP of gain? :( ...Anyways, I am no speed demon ....

Honestly, I will most likely order the High Flow Intake System, install myself, and see how the car performs. If OK The software can wait. I do really also like how this setup looks. As for my 2.5I engine, it’s all for show…LOL

Thork, Good luck with the Sale, that is a good price and the system looks impressive.... I am getting one for sure.... :) :)
