USB stick problems

Hi I recently bought an 09 plate Z4 3.0i sdrive roadster.
It's got aux in/USB sockets but when i plug my Transcend USB stick in, the stereo doesn't recognise it
My wife's Sandisk stick is recognised.
Seems the Beemer is a bit picky with USB stick makes!
 
I bought a 32gb transcend to use in our Kuga, but it would not recognise it... tried re formatting, no joy. all other sticks I have used have worked even a 320gb portable HDD..
