Usb stick format

I’ve previously copied my iTunes onto a 32gb stick directly from my iMac - then run a dot_clean and the car has read the stick.

As I’ve added more music I thought I would prepare another stick in the same manner. The car won’t read the data that had been prepared the same way.

Prior to download I used the iMac to delete any data already on the stick and I assume that formats it ?
 
You need to format it to fat32. It won’t read Mac formats. You might need ex_fat format for big capacity usb sticks but I’m not sure if it reads that either.
 
I use a mac, just format the stick as FAT 32 then copy the files.
I copy direct but have not needed to do any cleaning.
I think you only need to do that for updating the sat nav from USB sticks
 
From disk utilities and clean, that will leave it Formated as Fat32 ?

When I copied my iTunes previously it (the car) wouldn’t read the stick unless subjected to the dot_clean regime?

I formatted to Fat32 and dragged the iTunes files across.
I’ve used the stick in our 335 and it seems to be ok - it takes and age for the files to show on the system but it’s all good now!

I seem to remember 20Gb of which 12GB is user accessible via the USB port in the glove box.

Quite a while since I last looked at this so prepared to be corrected if someone knows differently.
 
Yeah, about 12GB useable, as I was recently looking at adding music...ended up with a 64GB thumb drive, like this https://www.mymemory.co.uk/sandisk-16gb-cruzer-fit-usb-flash-drive.html in the glovebox....it's so small it doesn't stick out, so won't get broken.

I think you can change the hard drive for a bigger one, even SSD but you have to do lots of faffing with partitions, and the car still only says 12GB (even though it holds more).

I did mine on a mac, must've been exfat or fat32 and then used a PC to delete the . files that were hidden, because sometimes the car lists stuff twice.
