USB Map Update not working?

Hi gents, got the latest 2019-1 map update with an FSC code. All downloaded and unzipped fine, but the car does absolutely nothing when I plug it in?

Using the glovebox USB port, stick is 64gb formatted as FAT32 and works fine with mp3s on it. Any ideas?

Car is 2014 so should have the newer firmware right? It’s on the latest OTA software update.

Ok, not having idrive myself, have you navigated to the update section on the idrive screen?

Memory stick was empty before use and the files downloaded directly to the drive (ie; not within another file)?

Need to make sure you've got your update files in the root folder of the USB drive, no sub folders or it won't find it.

Are you using a Mac or Windows?

I might be talking balls, but I've got an inkling that it formats it slightly differently (still called fat32?).

Anyway, if you aren't already, can you try it on a PC, just incase?

My 2009 model worked fine with a 32GB memory stick in the glove box USB.

Some brands are not recognised if over 32GB, from what I've heard.

I've updated my maps using a Sandisk Ultra 64GB, no issue !

Is the Map Update worth It to you think? Not sure what Version It's running but It looks very out of date! How much does the USB Files set you back?

It’s the cost of the map update that’s the sting ...not the usb stick...

My maps are 2014 and I've had a handful of bugger ups because of that. Roundabouts in the middle of nowhere and a few one way streets that have changed direction! So yeah for me I needed the update, YMMV.

Interesting post...just thinking of doing this. Mine is a 16 plate...had a conversation with the people at connected drive and they said I would need a 64 g memory stick..and I would have to install it from the centre USB..not the glove box. I will have a looksie at what you brought...

I’ve just had the maps updated on mine at my local BMW dealer for £35. Don’t know if that’s the regular charge but couldn’t have done it myself for much less and saved any hassle.
