Ok, so I am going to the US on business for 3 weeks. I am trying the best way to get to the places I need to be, so wanted some help with the following:

- Need to be in Groton on a monday which I understand is 3 hour drive from JFK
- Need to be back in NYC on friday afternoon
- Need to go from NYC back to Groton on monday morning
- Back to NYC on friday
- stay in NYC for another week

If I was to rent a car, is there anywhere I can park in NYC at all? I would be on 42 / 2nd, in company owned appartment without parking spaces. Would town cars be extremely expensive for those trips?

Groton is about a 2h 45m train ride from Penn Station in Manhattan. I think Mystic, CT is the closest stop. Amtrak is the train service. I think it would cost a lot and be a big hassle renting a car in that area. The price of parking alone would be tremendous. I took the train into Manhattan two weeks ago and I thought it was great. You could go Business class for $68 each way, then a $2 subway ride to your apartment. www.amtrak.com

I am currently in Groton right now. Been here for the last month. The nearest train stop is across the river in New London. It's about 10min from the New London train station to the Naval Base in Groton or the EB shipyard in Groton...

Where are you going to be staying while you are here in Groton and where do you have to go?

Still looking for hotels, but I got sent the Hampton Inn as a link from someone who works there. Looked a bit cheap to me ...

Found a garage in NY now for parking underneath the building I am for $33 a day, so not too bad.

Are you going to be there in September as well? Otherwise could meet up :driving:

I am leaving here Aug 15th and will be backup on Sept 4th, (After HC08....) until Oct or Nov.....

When I am up here, I always stay at the Groton Inn and Suites. They are not the newest or the best but the rooms are good. You can also get an efficiencies room with one or two bedrooms and a kitchen...
I don't need opulence, just clean and homey.....

But the biggest reason is they have their own bar & restaurant in the place... If you get tanked, you just walk (stagger) back to your room. No driving.....
Thursdays is ALL-You-can-Eat PrimeRib. It is said to be the best in New England....

It is owned by a Englishman......

Well, I will be there from Sept 8th for two weeks, followed by a week in NYC. Might be able to meet then
