Hi, I need some advise please. I've been to look at a 2.5 2006 Z4. Whilst idling the engine had a very loud tapping noise.
Is this normal? Also, one of headlights was very clouded over. Is this an easy fix?

Can anybody help?

Thanks
Matt

Loud tapping noises are not normal. Few slight rattley tappets perhaps.
I'd be very wary of it.

Clouded headlight. If it's external degrading, then with some effort you can wet sand or plastic polish it out. If it's misting inside then if minor can be dried and a new rear cover fitted. If serious then the light is shot at.

Thank you very much for the reply. I've done some research on my travels and the tappingit seems like an expensive fix. I'm off to look at another one instead!

Always hard to diagnose from a distance and without hearing it, but simple test is to listen to 2 or 3 and 'normal' soon emerges, not only for the engine, but gearbox, steering, drive feel, etc.

Tappet now is the HVA's. Major issue on the N52 in the facelift. If it doesnt go after a couple of seconds then walk away. The only way to fix is to replace the head with a modified one that BMW later introduced.

BMW will claim no damage will occur but I don't believe that.

Link to my thread, had my head replaced under warranty @ £3,420. Think I was the first on here to have the head replaced. Now BMW won't replace, instead they replace some of the HVA's which is very hit and miss.

Thanks everyone for the info! It definitely didn't go after a few seconds. We were there a good 20 minutes and it didn't stop. Glad I walked away. Bought a 2.0 instead. Thanks for the help.
