Well its back to square one with the car as the dealer has just called and said the sensor they fitted has fixed some of the faults but not all of them so they are now ordering a switch at an additional £460  but don't know if that will fix it :!: :!:

Typical BMW technicians - they only know how to plug in a diagnostic machine and cant do anything other than that :headbang:

I'd want to turn up and see the 'part fix'. Perhaps its fixed nothing but thats their way of justifying charging you for the part theyve fitted hoping it would fix things. Its unlikey that two parts would fail together at the same time independently of each other. Suspicious...

You and me also

Fully agree, the second part might be the fix and then the first part replaced was not faulty but still chargeable no doubt :o

Will wait to hear from them this morning and ask to have the old parts back or once fixed for them to replace the old parts that they took off first as I aint paying for them :x

Systems are very inter-dependent on modern cars.
A brake light switch failed on my Disco 3 which collapsed the air suspension - I never would have thought either system would be linked in any way shape or form. (I was told that the same effect and code could be shown if a brake lamp failed in a particular fashion)
I think that a simple sensor will indeed be a problem - it only needs a competent techie to find it!

I think its finding a competent techie that's the problem lol :o

Hmnn, just had the stealer on the phone and the second part has not fixed the problem so they have taken it off and put the old part back on

They now want me to authorise a further 2 hours diagnostics at £99 per hour having already paid £99 for the first diagnosis :o

Seems like they have no idea what's wrong with it and are clutching at straws and when I said the first sensor they replaced was probably not needed they huffed and puffed a lot and said it has fixed some of the issues - where will this end :headbang:

Ok chaps, how would you describe torque in my signature then?

All entries considered lol.

Torque is how quickly the fence accelerates after you've hit it :D

Ask them if the £99/hour charge is based on paying for their expertise ? If so, can you have a quote for their hourly guessing rate, which is what you seem to be getting. In this age all issues are logged in the diagnostic system therefore its not acceptable.

To the Op where are you based, viewing this on my doesn't say but might be able to point you in direction of good indy,

An hour is reasonable (almost) diagnostic time but asking foe more is taking the P

What equipment are they using a ouija board?

Based just north of Newcastle and the dealer is Coopers at East Boldon. I went in to see them at 2pm and they had not even started to look at her again but said they would there and then but here we are at 6pm and no phone call so I presume not good news

They asked me to agree the first hour at £99 and when the sensor they put on did not work they had to wait for a second part. Once that was fitted and did nothing they put the old part back on and called me to ask for a further 2 hours @ £99 each :!: :!:

I will get a call sometime on Monday but I hope they have hard hats as I will be dropping a few bombs when they present me with a bill lol.

So just called the stealers and they have sent a puma (some kind of internal reporting program/help assistance) to BMW as they have no idea what is wrong with the car - so far no reply from BMW but they are calling it a catastrophic event what ever that means - I think it is their way of saying "fu*k me your going to get a big bill"

I think your letter writing skills will be put to the test if the warranty doesn't pay up.
4years old and 8,500 miles the car is comparatively new I would say.

Does the car have Bmw history etc.?

I think this is one of those moments where the phrase "squeaky bum time" is wholly appropriate :D
Good luck chap

The car was serviced at approx 5000 miles by the selling dealer sometime in 2014 and only then on a time and not mileage service - this is where a very low mileage car is confusing as the car was on a PCP deal of some sort and supposedly when the dealer took it back towards the end of the 4 year deal they were unable to sell it from their forecourt as it did not have a full BMW service history so they traded it on and I bough it from a second hand car trader in Cardiff. As such is this a full BMW service history or not?

Its getting confusing as the trader in Cardiff sold me an RAC warranty which according to the RAC I should not have as by rights the trader is or has some responsibility for the first 6 months, however they may cover the first £1,000, I would hope BMW would do something on this and the selling trader should do something but who knows :?

Thanks for the kind words but I ask for BMW or me lol as those that know me will say I do like a good battle and they are already feeling sorry for BMW if something is not done soon and a large helping from BMW forthcoming

What history does your car have?

You should not be expected to pay for BMWs research into a fix!

As mentioned in my earlier post - she was serviced in 2014 at 5000 miles by the selling dealer

Sorry I missed your reply - reading on a phone!
Could BMW wriggle and say a non competent / non BMW has messed things up?
