Urgent help needed!

Guys, just drove a coupe. Nice drive but little worried about the service book. The run in service was done at 1613 miles, not 1200. Is this a worry? Also, the stamps were a little out of sync cos the run in service had 8081 and 1613 under the tickbox. The dealer (indie) said he should be able to get proof from the BMW dealer to say it was all done on time.

Again though, great driver!!!!

Cheers in advance!!!

You can also call the BMW customer service line (at £1/minute unfortunately) and check the dealer visits by that.

I thought it had to be within 200 miles or so, but don't quote me on that.

Mine was done at 1,205 miles - although it seemed to take the original owner 7 months to do that mileage: PDI on 25-Oct-06, then running in check on 03-May-07. Maybe it was on display, but not sold for a couple of months.

I thought it was 200 miles too, been searching but can't find anything definitive on that though.

Don't take any risks. There are many M cars out there (and here).
I'd have to agree, when you come to sell it, all your potential buyers will be thinking as you are now, and in some doubt.

How well priced is it compared to others?

Thanks for the advice guys. Ive just called the BMW help line and they say the car must be serviced between 1200 - 1800 so the one I'm looking at is fine. If I can get a duplicate book from the dealer (Sytner I think) then I should be fine selling it on. I will also call BMW as suggested by mmm-five to check the service history for myself.

Above is the car in question. Ive already had a post on the car to see if anyone knows it. 23k for a car with 19k miles and I'd be the 3rd owner seems ok for me. Full nav thankfully though no cup holders!!!!! Cant be doing with that haha. It only has a couple of months of manufactures warranty on it so I would have to purchase a warranty from BMW. Anyone know how much that would cost? The indie selling the car thinks its around a grand for 12 months form a BMW dealer!!

Other than a couple of small scratches the car looks good on the outside and in.

Cheers Mike, I think I mite actually risk going without a warranty. Not sure I would want to pay a grand cos if I didn't claim I'd be gutted!!

So guys, would any of you part with your hard earned money on this car? The only bad thing is the service book mistake. The indie said he should be able to get a duplicate book or a letter from the dealer to say the services have been done. I'm sure if he had of got these already for me to see I would have bought it by now!! But as he hasn't, I'm all confused :?

Don't mean to put you off, but I'd still be ever so slightly suspicious of these mistakes with the service book, because these guys fill them in every day, lets face it it is pretty hard to make a mistake. I would definitely get confirmation first, can you remember who serviced it?

Not sure about running without a warranty, mine has had the emissions light on after a mile, which is quite common if they've been stood for a while. It may go out in time, however it might be an O2 sensor required at £300-400 so I reckon the warranty is worth it on these cars.

I just ran my SLK without a warranty for 5 months without any trouble though, so wo knows :idunno:

I think it was Sytner BMW in Sheffield?? I might go back and speak with the garage again in the morning and try to sort my head out. :(

I think it must be such a chore for some dealers as my service booklet (the original) only had the stamp for the PDI check when I bought mine, and only bought it once I'd verified the proper servicing had been followed and then only managed to get the oil service & brake fluid stamps by physically driving to the dealers getting them to stamp the book.

I'm still missing the stamp for the running in check even though it was signed & dated (and I've verified it) - and I'm not making another special trip to the dealership in Northampton (unless I'm in the area) just to get the stamp when it's recorded on the national computer.

You could always buy mine :poke:

Re the cost of the extended warranty - you do know that you can pay this on a monthly basis? I had a quote of £80ish a month. I know this is still around £1000 pa but it is a little easier to pay, would give you peace of mind and could save you a lot of money in the long run.

Hey bob, thanks for that. That does seem to be a little easier on the wallet!!

Still not sure whether to go for the car though. Still a bit concerned about the service book and the number you call to check the service history is monday to friday and Im guessing it wont be open bank holiday monday.
