Ok guys with out going into much detail ,does anyone work or have worked for a local planning office , some much needed advice needed.

Basically ,plans for a Temple have been put forward on a plot of land which currently has two detached houses on them which is situated on the corner of our very narrow close where i live.Iam talking about a industrial size building which can hold up to 400 people yes you have read right up to 400 people and probably more for festivals and weddings. My main concern is the parking for such attendances . This is a residential area of which there is not or very very few of such faith which this temple will serve which will lead me to believe a huge influx of cars, buses and coaches. In the plans they even highlight using our road for overflow parking ,our road is close and is about 150 m long which is very narrow and over parked as it is .There has already been over 40 objections already concerns with traffic, parking, noise, pollution, block off light and restricted access for emergency vechials.

Just need some help in the best way to go about objecting to such proposals , what will the planners really take notice off

I have spoken to friends who are of such faith and even there say there wouldnt want to live next to a temple because of the distruption. :o

Please dont get the wrong idea i have no issues with this faith its just the wrong place for such a large development and would be better sistuated some where more practicle. You really would need to see the plans and you would understand our fears.

We have one at the top of our drive-i am not a racist, but every weekend they turn up in fookin big brand new 4x4's that they cant drive chewing all our grass verges up,parking over private drives, blocking tenfoots etc,one of the reasons our house is going on the market.(sorry i cant help with your question)

Bad news all round

We recently had the same issue with a scientology church right behind my house - in short they wanted to knock down the current one (which was very small) then build a new, bigger one so swallowing up what parking they had one site. This meant all the surrounding roads would be hit with cars from the congregation.

In short the local residents went to the council, local newspaper and the various planning meetings and lost...

Speaking to the planning guy after the final meeting he said "unfortunately when it comes to places of worship they always win, unless its existence will stir up racial or religious tension, or cause 'major' road congestion

So the only advice I can offer is to rally the neighbourhood or check out rightmove :/

These plans have already been objected once before , its just unbeleivible that there just dont get how this builden will be so distruptive to local residents and pretty much ruin there daily life

I would find out what the main differences are in the old and new plans, then work on that

This is terrible. Mate I really feel for your predicament.

Ranskis advice seems sensible. I'd also try to involve the whole neighbourhood, local news, community groups, even local MP?

Sounds good, but then it's at risk of stirring up the "faith card" as ranski alluded to.

It's a bloody disgrace that residents and homeowners don't get a reasonable say in what happens in their community

Agree  :headbang:

We have loads of temples around where I live and the traffic they generate is simply amazing. Fortunately I don't have any within a few miles of the house so it doesn't impact me every day. I can't offer any better advice than already given but I feel for you. Good luck.

Its a real shame really because something like this can actually do more harm for race relations as locals residents will start to begrudge them . and we dont have a problem in the first place .

Hm, difficult when it happens to your road!

Definitely talk about the impact to the local area, and the deadly impact on the parking / congestion. I've spoken at a planning meeting before. When is the meeting, and have you considered getting a 'group' together to discuss the objections? You or someone should consider speaking at the planning committee meeting to air your concerns.

From my experience, I suggest taking photographs of the immediate and surrounding area to show on the afternoon / night.

..sadly minorities always get their way
I think that's a bit harsh to make that sort of comment. A bit generalistic.

You can pay Highways for a highway survey for £50. That will generate a report which will identify all issues relating to the highway.

When it comes to planning there are a number of parties involved:

- Local council
- District council
- Highways
- Environment

They all prepare a report for the plans and either object or don't.

Find who the planning officer is as well (is visible on line for the district council) and start emailing him your concern. Ensure each neighbour does the same as the number counts. Even if the letter is the same, every objection counts.

You can follow online what is happening with the planning and who has objected. To get highways on board is a good plan right now as it is not expensive to get the report done and it will report exactly what the issues will be when the plan goes ahead. Ideally, get an idea of what a temple would generate in respect of parking spaces requirements etc for a general one of that size.

On the website, all your councilers are listed with their contact details. Get every single one involved and write to them. Alternatively, invite them for a meeting with a number of your neighbours. They WILL take note as you are their voters.

Hit hard, hit early with all guns blazing at all fronts as that is what gets things stopped before it has gone too far.

Cheers PVR pretty much all of your suggestions are in place already.

if any one would like to have a look and can see for themselves why we are concerned.

Take a look at the Wokingham borough council website , look under planning applications and enter Case no. F/2012/0442

if you look at the plan view or the 3D view will give you the best idea .

Remember this building can hold up to and excess of 500 people with industrial size kithchens

What religion is the building going to be used for depending on what it is you may be able to say their xyz service at xyz time will cause you problems with noise traffic etc

We have found out the local council want to put a gypsy site near us, our estate is going mad even though its over a km away but concerns have been raised about house price drops etc

I have signed the local organised petition etc... Let them dump it at the other side of town. Lol

that is a strong application they have there. i would be worried for the houses on the main road with that gravel strip which will get blocked with cars. ive had a look around the streets on google and there doesnt seem to be any yellow lines or permits so they could park anywhere. best bet would be through the highway control. if they do build it, at least make it difficult for them by obtaining permit parking and yellow lines. being close to a station should also help! also get enough people to sign a petition and then string it through courts could hold it off long enough for the developer to give up
