X2 I done this in my E46, very easy to install as everything in the back and it sounded great. I added two amps and two subs and left the stock speakers as they sounded pretty good once they were powered by an amp.
 
Can't see that all the loom is there to go down the OEM route. Looms also seem to be hard to get hold of now (Sat Nav as an example)

If you had all the wiring there would be spare connectors behind the carpet on the rear bulkhead where the amp would go.
 
Wiill see on saturday, .... will have time to tear it down, im pretty sure i have the hifi amp in the back cos ive got an optical lead coming out of the back of the head unit.
Im just a little intimidated fitting any thing not oem ........ plug and play wins my day everytime
 
Hi - seems odd that you have amp in boot + digital connections but no sub woofers - I thought (with Carver system I have at least) they only came together - not sure about the M set up though. It is possible to have Carver without OEM Nav - I do - you just have limited DSP settings - sounds good though. Could have let you hear at last mmeet . . .

if you have only six speakers it the basic option with no amp. Are you sure it's not the aerial coming out the back of the head unit?
 
well its weird .....
Ive got the full BME Business CD Head Unit
Ive got an 8 speaker set up, 6 at the front and 2 at the back

thats a tweeter in each door, a mid range in each door and woofers in each pillar support and 2 mid range behind the seats, all that missing is the carvers.

Im taking the VIN number up on sat to see if they can dig out whats actually in there .....

theres 3 setups .....

Standard - no amp in the back - anp in head unit
HiFi - amp in the back
TopHiFi - amp in the back

the Hifi amp is 550 USD and the Top HiFi amp is 1176 USD

only know all thsi stuff cos I downloaded the manuals THAT ARE FREE TO DOWNLOAD ON MY SITE :D :D which is of course why I bought them in the first place.

the BMW bloke in Glasgow reckons all I need is the carver setup (including the sound boxes) the amp (carver speakers need the top hifi amp) the mid range speakers and the front sub woofers ....... if thats the case its a 2 hour job :thumbsup:
 
what Im hoping is that the Top HiFi amp is in there and that somebody swipped or was to tight to pay for the carvers ........ :D
I mean its a 2006 Z4M ..... and probably the only one Ive seen without Sat Nav ..... so Im thinking, original buyer was a bit short on add ons....
 
Sounds like the 6 speaker standard to me...

It's the only one without subs behind the seats, unless it's aftermarket. You dont have mids in the doors im afraid...

Just what I was about to say. Those grilles in the door don't actually have speakers behind them (or so I'm led to believe).

I'd be taking the cleansweep and aftermarket amp route and retaining the OEM headunit if it was my money, and adding a couple of subs into the recesses behind the seat. There's been a guide written by a member on here about the OEM pieces required to create those enclosures, to which you can fit your choice of aftermarket subs.

I rarely listen to music in the Z4 - I've saved my installation for my campervan :oops:

[*] If you have NAV you will have TMC, a traffic info alert. This will be green when not using the radio, meaning it's receiving updates. It does this usually from Classic FM.

I have the basic hi-fi with professional, which I thought automatically upgraded the stereo when it was selected cos it's such a hugely expensive option. However I had a door card off last weekend to fix my window, found a blanking plate rather than a speaker and thought someone had nicked them... Caught myself before posting on here and being roundly laughed at, read the books and was gobsmacked - I mean, the car must have cost upwards of £36k new, IIRC satnav was (is still !) a laugh-out-loud priced option, and it has fake speakers... I am mightily affronted :x

Sorry, Not really a constructive addition to this thread, but I felt the need to moan and spotted an opportunity... Thanks for listening :thumbsup:

Find a fascia plate, though black ones seem harder to find, a BMW to ISO conversion lead (Halfrauds or any semi decent Audio place will have one).
Now the tricky bit, remove the centre vents.
It's all downhill from here remove the HU, attach the first part of fascia plate, connect the the lead to the cars loom, connect the other end to the HU, loads of room to lose all the cables (if no OEM Sat Nav fitted) behind the HU push into place and fit the second part of the Fascia.
The speakers etc are just as easy but time consuming in gaining access to them.

how did your facia plate fit so nice,mine juts out at the bootom and is so brittle I'm too scared to give it any force
