Hello Everyone, this is my first post, so hopefully if it is in the wrong place, someone will let me know.
I have just purchased a SINGLE DIN radio unit - Specifically the Pioneer AVH-Z7100DAB and am in the process of getting all the parts to fit it. This unit cost a hell of a lot, but has a pop out screen, apple carplay, android auto and is a capacitive touch screen vs the more standard resistive.
I am posting this article as an all in one how to guide which labels my steps and updates for those looking to upgrade their unit. This radio is brand new and has to date (10/06/2018) no reviews or guides, so this will be the first.
Before i start, here's all the parts needed to complete my project:
Pioneer AVH-Z7100DAB : https://amzn.to/2MhjVbc - £449.00
BMW Z4 E85 Stereo Fascia Plate: https://amzn.to/2JGKdFo - £13.00
BMW Aerial Adapter Cable: https://amzn.to/2HCPg4i - £5.50
USB 3 Mounting Plate to USB 3 Male - https://amzn.to/2y5seUa - £6.00
BMW ISO Harness - https://bit.ly/2JuSXLj - £8.00
I have not bought everything to make a 1-1 swap, for this you will require an ISO Harness with stalk controls (for steering wheel) and a DAB aerial. (I chose not to use DAB as i am happy with FM and will mainly be using spotify from my car phone)
For instructions on removing the original BMW stereo unit from your car, see this video: https://youtu.be/QURjgGNsxLs
After removal it's really easy to plug in the new headset.
I am currently still waiting on the Fascia plate, Aerial Adapter cable and USB mounting plate, but here are some pictures of my plans and current photos, as well as a small description about them.
Here is the head unit semi-installed as an initial example, running carplay:

A small visualisation of where I plan to add the USB mounting plate:

For this specific radio, there was a parking brake wire that grounds itself when the handbrake is on (to prove the car has stopped). When using android auto to accept the terms and conditions, it required this cable to be grounded otherwise it wouldn't be possible to set it up:

If, like me, you need to set up android auto but don't want to bother with the cable, you can use jump start leads to connect to the ground of your battery to this cable and set up android auto. Once you've done it once it won't ask you to do it again, even on a separate unit.
Be extremely careful when removing the vents. I used a flat head screwdriver instead of a spudger and accidentally chipped some of the trim. As seen in this photo:

The current kit i have so far is here:

I will keep everyone informed of the progression and show the end product hopefully by Friday afternoon! Any comments, please feel free to share, i'd love to see what you guys think!
