Upgrade to Aerotwin wipers

I put the Aerotwins on a week or so ago. 19" and 21". Yes, the passenger side is not in contact with the screen at the outer inch or so when in the "parked" position. But the upside is that I can now see when it's raining.... Haven't had any issues with lifting at speed either. Must get some headlights next - I'm pretty sure they must have been an option that the original owner didn't spec when new. Oh, there's a switch in the cabin, but it doesn't seem to do anything...

I should have been clearer with 'lifting at speed' In essence they did not lift off the screen, but pressure was reduced such that the drivers side smeared, not wiped cleanly.

Hopefully they have got better over the last few years

I had the opportunity today to use the new blades as it hammered it down on the way to work this morning (thought as much as the car was just not leaned the other day!) I got the Bosch AR21U and AR19U aero retrofit blades from car Euro parts for about £18 for the pair (£40 in halfords) and they are great, look much better but also clear the windscreen better than the standard blades crom Bosch as I've always seen them to kind of drag on the screen. Big thumbs up.

Replaced my old aerotwins with new ones just this week

I went for ar19u and ar20u as I felt the drivers side wiper fouled the top of the windscreen surround slightly. Seems fine now.

Also, the old ones always made an awful noise and jumped across the screen. The new ones don't do this.

By the way, your wiper motor needs sorting out as your wipers are sitting higher than their lowest point.

Yeah the wipers only started doing that in the last few days!

It's probably not the relay but instead grease inside the mechanism covering the contact which tells it to stop. There's a thread in the how to section for how to fix it. I took mine apart after they started stopping in the wrong place and after cleaning up the inside they work fine now.

My wipers also sat in the higher position until tonight. Whilst changing my blades i accidentally moved using some force the passenger wiper down the screen by about two inches (which also made the drivers side go down - must be linked). But on doing this my wipers sit in the lower position  I've even used them since and still park in the lower position......Fingers crossed??

Don't know if you wanna try this, i also may try to grease the mechanism at some point as advised.

If I can resurrect this thread.

Just about to buy some Bosch blades for mine, but before I do I have a question. Why have people gone for a 19" blade instead of a 20" one on the passenger side? From what I have read the 19" doesn't contact the screen fully in the down position where the screen curves, which I assume is the same issue with the 20". But wouldn't it be better to stay with the 20" for when the blade is sweeping the screen, or am I missing something here?

thanks

It doesn't make any difference to the sweep for the drivers view. It just obviously leaves a larger area dirty.

This photo shows the sweep and where the blade doesn't make contact in the bottom left of the windscreen. Yes I'm aware my car is insanely filthy

Thanks Ben. I suppose what I should of asked is next time around will you 19" again or back up to 20"?

I put Aerotwins on today. 20 and 21. The passenger one doesn't make it round the curve, but no worse than the old style ones fitted before. I think the Aerotwins suit the car much better

I've already purchased another set of wiper blades ready for the new year, 19'' and 20''

Thanks Ben,

Got a set on now, just need to see how they perform in the rain.

I've just gone for Bosch "normal" rather than aero wipers. Had the latter on my 3.0si but just didn't look right to me. I think it's the design of the wiper arm.

Agree, I took off almost new Aero and put OEM back on just for looks
OEM not cheap though
