Upgrade Sat Nav Software

I purchased new maps from bmw a few months back, think they were only £50 or so as now released quarterly. Certainly well below £100 as remember being very shocked at the quote so cheap

Ahh brilliant - I'll be sure to pop into my local dealers and enquire then!

Cheers :)

Sorry - just to clarify for a newb... I can go into a BMW dealer and request the newest software?

They will insert a new disc and upgrade the DVD nav's firmware?

What's the cost of the above? Approx £80-£100?

I would have thought that the firmware would get to a certain age and not be programmable with the newest software?

Thanks

You can buy the latest maps disks from BMW for approx. £160.

Firmware you can update yourself, but if you'd rather BMW did it then id probably say half an hour labour.

So maybe £230 in total.

Thanks for your reply! Is it complicated to update the firmware of the system myself? I presume I need to download the update and plug in a USB stick into the system?

Slow burn the software onto a DVD & very easy upgrade. Although if you are going to use legit maps, there isn't a huge benefit in upgrading the firmware. Cannot remember your current software, but should already have 3D view in a hidden menu IIRC, but might be wrong.

Aside from camera alerts (outdated) and the 7 digit postcode I've not seen anything I'm missing apart from the nice ///M splash on start up. Love a custom one to add that to the screen to be fair

That's good if it's only £50 now.

The reason I didn't upgrade my maps on the Coupe was the cost.

£70 + Vat at my dealers, just checked
Ah, so must have got a discount from my Indy dealer when I purchased it, as he was exBMW with prior contacts.

To be fair, there are still roads that have been traffic light junctions vs roundabouts for 6years not being reflected in the maps - but know it's not BMWs fault but the mapping company.

No, but before he set up on his own he spent 20yrs with them, so am sure with that fact, my INS2 & the M5 knob there was a discount above normal rates then. Will try and look at the paperwork when work is less demanding, maybe got my facts wrong / missed the smaller costs when getting a new car

Just ordered the latest 2019 Sat Nav disc from Coopers BMW for my E86.
Cost £79
My current software is 2008.
I’ll let you know what develops!

Just starting out on this too. Will have to check but by the look of my maps I don't think my 2006 E85 has ever had a map update.

BMW dealer site sent me to garmin... does that sound right?

Just to give a personal recommendation - I used this eBay item- https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/303180388681 - to update my Navigation computer to v32 and also give it a 2019 map - all seemed to work very smoothly.
