Upgrade Sat Nav Software

Hi Guys,

I have recently downloaded a new software version for the sat nav in my z4 and when i put the new disc in my disc drive the maps look identical. I don't think anything has changed.

I have the professional navigation in my car and i downloaded BMW Road Map Europe 2010-1 HIGH. I thought this would update the maps and possibly the look of the maps in my car but i haven't had any luck. Am i missing something or am i trying to do something that is impossible?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Ben

The software does not affect the maps, The map disk controls the maps. 2 different things.

However we cannot discuss illegal software on the site. Buy an OEM disk

The newer versions simply update the maps with road changes - it doesn't change the way the maps are displayed on the screen.

Still find the maps on both the BMW & TomTom systems are never 100% anyway. There will always be about a year's lag between survey, collation & modification, and distribution of the —although some roundabouts in my area have been traffic light controlled junctions for 10 years, so maybe they leave some intentional errors in to prevent other companies using their mapping data (I know Ordnance Survey used to). At least I can put my own changes into the TomTom system (i.e. new roundabouts, change turn restrictions, change speed limits, etc.).

Although as cj10jeeper put previously, if you download hook software then it's your problem if something goes wrong, and don't expect much support from here or the 'unoffical supplier' :P

Just wait for the drive to lock up now ...

For the sake of £99 from a dealer for OEM and legal, why make your system unreliable?

what version software do you have? you may need to upgrade the software in your sat nav if you want it to look updated. I believe the software is free and legal to download (i may be wrong) lastest version is v32 and xoutpost.com is the forum for finding/discussing these things

getting the latest Nav CD simply adds in any new roads that have been published.

Of course - the software version is just the operating system, so having the latest gives more features such as 3D view and minor bug fixes.

The maps require you to purchase an up to date map dvd from BMW or authorised supplier

Go to- Main screen. Go to- settings. Keep finger on menue button for 8 seconds. You find a hidden menue, find "Persepctive" botton. That changes maps to 3 D.

For info:

I've upgraded the firmware from Ver 26 to Ver 32 using a Mac. I downloaded NAV_SW(32).rar from:

http://www.megaupload.com Search that site, or for a link on Xoutpost.com.

Extract the file: NAV_SW(32).iso using UnRarX

Burn it to a cd using Disc Utility, using the slowest speed (8X) (In User/applications/Utilities/)

Then Install it in line with these instructions:

http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/all-bmw/navigation/9458-bmw-navigation-system-faq.html

and these:

http://www.bimmernav.com/images/instructions.jpg

All in all took about 5 minutes

Note. Even if BMW carries out an owner requested update to the software it is not warrantied by them. The firmware is a cost option only in man hours from BMW so you may as well do it yourself.

Firmware is indeed not chargeable so the above is perfectly fine.

Maps however are copy right protected.

Perspective was available from V28.

V32 has faster route calculations and some other features. The full list is available to see on the xoutpost.com website.

Sorry - just to clarify for a newb... I can go into a BMW dealer and request the newest software?

They will insert a new disc and upgrade the DVD nav's firmware?

What's the cost of the above? Approx £80-£100?

I would have thought that the firmware would get to a certain age and not be programmable with the newest software?

Thanks

You can buy the latest maps disks from BMW for approx. £160.

Firmware you can update yourself, but if you'd rather BMW did it then id probably say half an hour labour.

So maybe £230 in total.

I purchased new maps from bmw a few months back, think they were only £50 or so as now released quarterly. Certainly well below £100 as remember being very shocked at the quote so cheap

Thanks for your reply! Is it complicated to update the firmware of the system myself? I presume I need to download the update and plug in a USB stick into the system?
