Upgrade from professional audio

First week with my Z4 and Bluetooth won't work.

I want to able to use the controls for the phone on the steering wheel. I have opted for a new head unit and been assured this will all work. I'm happy to use my phone for satnav.

Also having the Audison prima speakers fitted in the doors, think it's tweeters and mid.
Can't decide if should also get the sub woofers under the seats as well but that sticks around another £400 on the bill.

Anybody have the Audison just door upgrade?

....
Has it actually got Bluetooth?
They all have the phone symbol button on the steering wheel (on multi-function wheels) whether they has Bluetooth or not.
The way to tell is to look at the top steering wheel cowl (between the steering wheel and the speedo clocks) if it's flatish and has two sets of short slats in it then it has Bluetooth, if it's just rounded and smooth then it doesn't.

For an aftermarket stereo then the track skip and volume buttons will work (with the correct adaptor box) but the phone button probably wont though.

In the E89 the subs aren't under the seats. If your car has subs (with the upgraded sound system) then you will see them on the trim panel behind the seats.

I’ve got the Audison door n tweeter upgrade..works well..

Subs need lots of power which the OE doesn’t have.

The woofers in the footwells respond well to an upgrade but ideally need better amplification..

So you may spend a lot of time and money on the subs to no great effect..they are a pain to get to..

What’s the head unit ?

The subs it has, in are indeed behind the seat backs.
I checked the vin in one of the websites that lists the spec and it is meant to have Bluetooth. Doesn't matter as it will have new Bluetooth on Wednesday.
It's some kenwood head unit, car audio place in Ilkley recommend it they are doing the install.

How did the upgrade of the headunit go.
Any pics?

First, install I arrived 1 part hadn't arrived, went back on Friday when they removed the professional system it had the H&K kit but the external grills don't say H&K. That has a different app which needs a different switch or something. Going back for a 3rd time on Tuesday. Could be a load of bull but I have no knowledge to challenge them.

Why not just source a BMW professional headunit and steering wheel cowl with the mic in it from ebay?

That's what I did and it works.
Keeps everything stock looking.
While at it, I installed an amp as well.

There never was a Harmon Kardon system fitted to the E89 as far as I know

I hope your installer delivers
There certainly was, but they are not marked as such.

I stand corrected.

I know of the 676 and 677 when / where was the HK fitted?

677 is the HK system, yellow labels on the back of each speaker, as fitted to quite a few of the top end BM's of the time.

Ah that will teach me not to answer without stripping the car down first !

Thank you

I think half the problem the installers have had is what is listed on specifications is not exactly the same as what's actually installed or it's not clear that the professional uses H&K.
Anyway I'm hoping it gets all sorted tomorrow as I have a road trip around Scotland for 4 days from Saturday.
