updating 6 speaker setup

Well finally fitted my door speakers. Bought some alpine 10c2, not very deep. I disconnected my tweeters as the alpines are 2 way.
Sounds much better now. Next job is replacing the cubby holes with some decent speakers.

Hi,

I have been trying to upgrade the basic to premium. Not possible says all.

Only thing I got succeeded so far is upgrading the tweeters with OEM speakers. Cost about 120 euros, but it did clarify the sound clearly.

I also assemblied new midranges OEM to the doors. Now have to try to connect them as shown in your pics. Thanks posting them!

I also have the subwoofers and the amp but as I said nobody knows how to connect them and if the system does work - not even BMW

Search the web for bmw wiring diagrams. I found one that gave me the colours for the tweeter wires.
I'm sure with a bit of time you could piece together how the premium system goes together.

Would it be possible to fit some 6x9s into the cubby holes and just use the wires from the rear speakers?
That's essentially what I asked at the beginning of this thread. I recently took the cubby holes out and I couldn't find the rear speaker cables, so can only assume you need to fit some new cables.
As for speaker size, 5.5 or 6 inch may fit. Not sure about 6x9.

This has been asked numerous times, it is possible to do that but you have to take splice in from behind the carpet in the boot.
HOWEVER you will not get the full range of sound by doing it that way; I don't think anyone has managed to get a conclusive explanation for why the low frequencies are not available (Bass). It's believed to be some sort off inline crossover somewhere on the loom or the head unit. This doesn't make much sense since running a fresh loom from the rear of the headunit gives full range (at least through the use of a line driver)
Best solution is to use a line driver and a fresh loom from the back of the unit then use crossovers to feed the various speakers.

Hope that answers the question. There are several writeups (including my own) that show different ways to acheive the desired 10.1 setup

Resurrecting an old thread, has anyone got a link to direct replacement speakers for the basic 6 speaker stereo?

The bavsound kit for the front looks like it would be good, but they no longer ship to the uk. I'm not after miriicles and would like to keep the standard head unit really.

I'd like to do this too, so anyone with the info please give it up

You can get direct replacements or you can use normal size speakers.
I think they are 4" /10cm for the doors and behind headrest and 6" for the footwells. Please confirm before you go and order anything.

Most of the OEM speakers are three mounting points but you can adapt for normal speakers.

I'm currently putting in 6x9s in the cubby holes and will probably take the feed from the headrest speakers.

I put in two way door speakers fed from the tweeter wiring and left the original tweeters out. This made a good sound difference.

Do you think these would work as a direct replacement for the doors?

I respect focal as a brand and have been pleased with their speakers I had years ago so I'm sure they will do the job sonically if theyre an easy fit
