I was wondering if anyone knows a company/service in the North West that offers brake caliper and drum painting/refurb. I could attempt it myself, but don't really have a lot of the tools needed and would hate to make a hash of it. Any recommendations out there? Or any proficient local Z-ers willing to assist or trade skills - I am a guitarist so can trade skills...somehow... :D

There was a site on the internet that I found that offered refurb and painting but it was quite expensive

Considering the seal kit is under £20 a tin of hammerite is £20, you still have to do all the hard work of removing them from your car if you send them away or do them yourself
I've got a set of calipers in my garage at the moment I'm doing

Did mine with a tin of hammerite smooth,a wire brush and aa aerosol of brake cleaner. Looks fine.After a really good go at them, the second coat ,12 mths later,was only a quick lick of hammerite with the wheels on painting only what I could see.Still looks good.It is easy to make a simple job complicated.
 
Update. I have found a place in Manchester that will do them, for a very reasonable cost. I will name them, and provide before and after pics once all completed - come back next week :)
 
Took me a couple of days to prep and paint, as they needed a couple of coats and I did it in the winter and my garage has to electric so not much light time.

but you shouldn't have to spend more than £60 a corner for a good job :thumbsup:
 
It's one job I keep meaning to do myself but haven't got around to. No intention of removing the caliper but will wire brush and mask up and then either brush or spray.

Shouldn't take you more than 4 hours, that includes brushing, cleaning the calipers then applying two coats of paint (I left each caliper an hour between coats)

Although its best done in warmer weather

Cheers ranski.......did you brush or spray. I'm thinking brushing may be best as thicker layers?

I did 3 coats of paint on mine, by brush, light sanding of the face of the caliper then wash... took about 5 hours but i only did one wheel at a time!

i guess if you do just before yo have a brake fluid change you wouldnt even have to worry too much about bleeding the brakes properly too.

are they easy to do on the car? the only brakes i have a lot of experience with are ford brakes on various cars and they are easy to take off just a couple of bolts

Two bolts hold the caliper in the carrier and two bolts hold the carrier on

In theory you don't have to remove the caliber if you brush the paint on so no bleeding needed
