UPDATED - Painting a Caravan

Hi Everyone,

As I’ve stated many times before I know not many here are keen caravan lovers especially on a forum based on a 2 seater sports car, myself included!

However I do like camping and taking the canoe out and about. Unfortunately having all the gear and a small tent to stay in isn’t always the comfiest of abodes so me and the Mrs decided to buy and old banger of a caravan. It’s cheaper than buying a modern large tent with similar capabilities and has more “facilities” if you know what I mean. It also means that on those typical British summers when were away in it, if the heavens do decide to open then we have enough space inside (and a beer fridge) to keep us occupied unlike a tent.

It was dry inside but on the looks side it looked a little worse for wear. As previous posts on this thread show, the inside has now been completed (Mrs Roundozo has now made new curtains and some covers to cover the garish seat cushions) so it was now the outside to be tackled.

I won’t bore you with all of the prep work photos and I all honesty I want to forget that part as it’s taken about a week to sand and prepare the body. So this weekend just gone it was time to paint! There are still a few extra bits to do such as paint a white pin stripe down the side, polish up the metal trim work and remove the frog tape but you get the idea.

As said there are still a few other bits n bobs to sort out but I must say it is a great improvement on what was starting to look a bit like it would be heading for the scrapheap. Also to keep it Z4 related my coupe sneaks into a couple of the photos!

I, for one have no problem with caravans, there's nothing like sitting around one on a fold-up chair with a beer on a cool autumnal evening feeling that lovely warm glow as it burns down to a nice bed of embers.... :wink:
 
Interesting choice of colours there - almost military (reminds me of the old grey buses that the RAF used to operate) :D

Great work though, a lot better than the standard white/cream combo :thumbsup:
 
It's supposed to be Lamborghini grey, I got the paint code and got a company to make up 10L of it in enamel form. I see what your saying about the busses, I can sort of see it. I'm mostly looking forward to the looks of disgust from caravan club owners that its not cream or beige!! Hahaha.
 
I'm not a big caravan fan, however I thought I was looking at 2 different caravans with your before and after pics - big improvement :thumbsup:
 
Big improvement Roundozo, looks great. However, with a location like that why would you want to take it anywhere, looks idyllic :thumbsup:

DumfriesDik The wife & I have speculated about touring in the coupe towing a teardrop in a matching colour :thumbsup:
 
Thanks stuartC, it is a beautiful place however the British isles are blessed with lots of wonderful places so this allows us to investigate them all!

While painting it over the weekend I noticed our yearly intake of house martin's has begun. While I've been painting, they've been building their little mud homes. I love how they look like little penguins!
 
Wow, what a transformation. That will stand out on a site and you have lifted the interior no end, well done. As a carvaner, I have no problem keeping to the speed limit, the biggest road blockers I find are bloody horse transporters/boxes.

That's just a waste of a caravan that could be entered into a caravan banger race at your local stock car track , funniest thing to watch ever :rofl:
 
Finally finished, well, as much as I can be bothered to be.

New rubbers, pin stripe painted and lights reinstalled.


 
Nothing wrong with caravans - I used to drag one around with the Disco 3 and was often held up by dithering farts in cars - it became the cool thing to criticise 'cos Clarkson & cronies did it !

Only thing that stops me now is my wobbly legs!

Although it's 12 years old now, my Daughter and Son in law has it now. Quality German kit :thumbsup:
 
Thanks for the kind comments guys! Taking it out on its first outing with the new paint job this bank holiday weekend. Looking at the weather forecast we will probably be spending more time inside than out. Beer, wine and games packed.
