Updated my maps last week with help from Facebook, thought I'd share here:
You will need:
- Your Z4's VIN number
- Empty 32GB USB Stick, formatted as FAT32
- Credit Card
There are several websites out there providing maps data, and navupdates.co.uk was recommended by several group members.
1. You need your current maps version to determine the line of maps your car requires. If you don't already know yours there are instructions here:
https://navupdates.co.uk/how-to-choose-your-map/
2. Knowing whether your vehicle requires NEXT, MOTION, PREMIUM, MOVE etc. version, purchase the maps from them via their main page... pay them and provide your VIN in the process. They require your VIN to generate a valid FSC Code specific to your car.
3. You will receive 2 separate emails from them. The first has links to download the maps, and the second will have your FSC Code. Download each of them, and find something to kill the time... The download for Western Europe is over 20GB. Make sure you can reference the FSC code in your car.
4. Add the contents of your download to the USB stick, and get in your car. the USB should contain a config.nfm file, and a folder called pkgdb
5. Insert the USB Stick into the port in your glove box, and your key into the ignition. Your car doesn't need to be running. Allow a moment or two for iDrive to load completely, and the USB drive will be automatically recognised.
6. On screen you'll be prompted if you would like to continue with the maps update, and then you will be asked for your FSC Code. Enter it now.
7. Play a game on your phone or check the latest on the forum, the update will take some time. I saw others mention 10 or 15 minutes, for me it took 25 minutes.
8. Once progress reaches 100% your iDrive may restart, and you can then check your maps version to make sure the latest version is listed.
9. Job Done! Crack open a cold one and relax.
If you have another website you trust (or a cheaper one) or know another way to get this done, mention it below. Cheers!
