Talked to the detailer at the local military BMW sales dealer about a respray. The fellow will remove bumper. Sand down to bare plastic, Prime, Color coat and clear coat, Reinstall. For 250 Euro. I'd say that isn't to bad a price.

I'd say that for doing the job properly as you have described that is a very good price indeed

Looks like it has been painted already, the grill is covered with overspray.

You'd be correct. Happened prior to my ownership. And to be honest. I hadn't noticed it. http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=52724&p=768314#p768314

What a bodge job, my Zed OCD would need a new grill too :D

Sorry. But I can't be bothered with OCD. I have a life to live. And the Zed, Even though they are nice. A collectors car they aren't. I want it to look nice. But I'm not bothered with it not being perfect. I've owned the Zed since 2010 and hadn't noticed the over spray. But I could see the redish primer and all the stone chips from a great distance. But while it's in for the respray. I'll have a new grid put in. They are only $100 USD.

Dont bother with a new grill!

Just remove it, and spray it with some black plastic paint! Simples!

as they're priming the whole bumper, ask them to use a dark grey primer then future stone chips will be much less noticeable

Brilliant idea. Thanks. PG & Aquazi  How dim was I to not have thought of spraying the grid black. Yikes!! :slaphead:

I was also thinking that should I not sell the Zed. Upon returning to the US. I want to treat the bottom of the front bumper with a rhino coating used to line pickup truck beds. It's impervious to road debris impacts and is flexible if one does nudge a curb.

You should not sell the Z

I think if I emigrated it would kill me to leave the car behind - I would have to take it with me.

I brought the Zed from the US. So taking it back is not an issue. The few things I don't care for concerning the Zed aren't really the Zed's problem. It has to do with society in general. 1, The Zed is a great handling car. But it feels a bit to composed unless one is pushing it very hard. It just doesn't feel fast till one approaches speeds that will land one in jail. 2, It's a magnet for tossers and chavs the world over who are always looking for a race or are on your rear bumper trying to goad you into doing something stupid. 3, As good looking as the Zed is. It really isn't a conversation piece when you stop somewhere while out hooning around.

The exact opposite was true when I owned my Porsche Speedster replicar. Everyone liked it and was always wanting to ask about it. Even the chavs liked it. And with the raw driving experience that such a bare bones car provided. I could have fun and it felt exciting to drive without having to resort to hyperlegal speeds. Yet the speedster was fast. It had a heavily modified 2.3 litre flat 4 that put out 170HP & 173LbFt of torque in a car that weighed less than half of what the Zed weighs. I could go fast. But didn't feel the need to do so to have fun.

That's why I have been entertaining a Caterham, Bug Eyed Sprite, MGA, TR3-4. Or even an American restored classic from the 50's.
