What do you chaps make of this: https://www.oystercarsuk.com/bmwz4forsale

2008 but a prefacelift with M54 engine. Very late registration on this. Wonder what the story is behind it.

According to DVLA (https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/), year of manufacture is 2008. :|

Bit odd no? What do you guys reckon is going on here?

Weird. The VIN indicates it was made in 2003, but the reg details show it was only registered in 2008!

Reg to VIN : https://www.checkmyreg.com/
VIN to show manufacture date: https://www.mdecoder.com/

Odd to think it must’ve sat unregistered for 5 years....!

Import from Ireland or just a mistake. There was a Mercedes 190E near me, pre face-lift on an L plate. 1st owner had a private plate and DVLA issued it with the L reg when it was removed.

Thanks for the checkmyreg link. Really helpful. 8)

Oddly the DVLA site seemed to think it was manufactured in 2008 which is clearly incorrect.

BMW VIN Decoder states date of manufacture: 2003-09-07

Perhaps imported from another country? Otherwise, yes as you mention, sat unregistered for 5 years. Must be a story behind that!

DVLA doesn’t show manufactured date, just first registered in UK date. As somebody else suggested this has been imported from somewhere. V5 should show it was not new when first registered in UK.

BMW used to keep a number of cars at HQ for display or training purposes

The engineering and dealer training would have current models

Once they were no longer current they would be registered and sold off

Williams in Manchester used to sell them on behalf of BMW ( maybe still do )

I’ve seen some really strange cars for sale there

Some are registered but never used on the road and sold as new but with “old” plates, others are old models but with the latest plates

Depends on DVLA rules which way it goes

But it’s worth watching out for them there are definitely a few “funnies” out there

Quirk of the system. Just assumed manufactured date same as registered year. I stand by what I said, it will be an import. BMW did not make these in 2008.

Yep, agreed. This car wasn't made in 2008.

It won’t be an import

If the original date of registration can be ascertained from previous overseas reg then it will receive an age correct age related plate

If it can’t then it will receive a DVLA reg ( similar to the old Q plates ) having had to go through all sorts of hurdles to get registered

My money is still on it being a genuine UK car that wasn’t registered until later and declared new at first registration
