United Airlines Song Background (short version)

In the spring of 2008, Sons of Maxwell were traveling to Nebraska for a one-week tour and my Taylor guitar was witnessed being thrown by United Airlines baggage handlers in Chicago. I discovered later that the $3500 guitar was severely damaged. They didn’t deny the experience occurred but for nine months the various people I communicated with put the responsibility for dealing with the damage on everyone other than themselves and finally said they would do nothing to compensate me for my loss. So I promised the last person to finally say “no” to compensation (Ms. Irlweg) that I would write and produce three songs about my experience with United Airlines and make videos for each to be viewed online by anyone in the world. United: Song 1 is the first of those songs. United: Song 2 has been written and video production is underway. United: Song 3 is coming. I promise.

That point was raised in the interview on FOX news and the reason is that the guitar was too large to fit in the overhead. He also noted that some airline recognize the value of a guitar to a professional musician and have made accomidations to allow it to be carried in the cabin when space could be found. United refused that request... :(

As Far as I know it is just about imposable to get instrument cases in the cabins of planes post 9/11 so monster flight cases are the way forward... I still don't think i would put one in the hold though :(

When I used to tour with my guitars, most times I always managed to get them put in the cabin and if not they went in specially made flight cases, which you could park a car on, and they would still be safe?, my guess is he had it in a standard hard case, ok for slinging about in a van or in the back of your car, but baggage handlers are in a different league, when it comes to "handle with care".

Just stumbled into this video which has been used for everything in the world but this is great...
